KC breeding advice needed please

Looking at getting a pup soon, one of the breeders we’ve spoke to has a littler available and whilst not uploaded to the KC site yet they are meant to be KC registered. The mom has had one litter before and they’re uploaded. But that litter was registered in May 2021, she is 4 and that’s her only registered litter.

But it was my understanding that a bitch couldn’t have 2 litters registered within 12 months of each other. It seems they've not bred her young but then done a b2b. They’ve said this is her last litter and they do own dad as well so that was a plus for us. But can they be registered?

Only in exceptional circumstances.

SpaceDetective · 03/02/2022 16:46

Are they licensed breeders? The rules are stricter for licensed breeders.

Why do you consider this a positive?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 03/02/2022 16:52

Generally owning both parents is a negative.

CMOTDibbler · 03/02/2022 16:59

Anyone that would do back to back litters should be avoided like the plague as it shows a blatant disregard for the bitches welfare

Goawayangryman · 03/02/2022 17:12

Yep owning both smacks of accidental litter to me. And it is not a good thing unless they are professional breeders with lots of dogs. Two pet dogs are unlikely to have been chosen for their compatibility in breeding together. And if accidental, may not have had the required health checks.

If you have both sire and dam name, you can use KC inbreeding coefficient calculator. But either way, I wouldn't be touching a litter bred back to back and it seems unlikely they will actually be KC reg pups. How did you find the breeder?

Wolfiefan · 03/02/2022 17:18

Decent breeders generally avoid back to back litters. How many dogs do they own? Where did you find out about them?

bollocksthemess · 03/02/2022 21:44

No, they probably won’t be able to be KC registered. And they’ve been quite cruel doing back to back litters like that.
It’s not good that they have both parents. I drove my bitch nearly 3 hours away, twice over three days, to meet the stud dog. The dog himself was imported from Hungary the previous year and the coefficient of inbreeding was zero for the litter.
If you buy the puppy you’ll be supporting an unethical breeder.

Whitney168 · 03/02/2022 22:31

Whilst I’m not saying this is a well bred litter, and having sire as well as dam is more often a negative than a positive, to correct any misinformation …

Licensed breeders cannot register two litters within a year from a bitch, but there is categorically no such restriction for unlicensed breeders at this time.

The KC is in a bugger’s muddle still post-COVID and registrations are still not fast. If you did decide to go for this litter, ensure you get a receipt that confirms that KC registration has been applied for and will be provided as soon as it’s received.

Sorry everyone, I posted and then got distracted by life. I meant a positive as in we’d get to see both parents.

We’ve checked the names and all seems technically well in terms of low hip scores all clear for hereditary diseases. We have already decided to not go ahead with the viewing as after a quick discussion though b2b breeding wasn’t the type of buyers we’d like to be. We’ve only ever purchased one KC dog before all others have been rescues. And our last KC breeder just made it all a breeze, very knowledgeable, still in contact now. Dogs were rested well between a litter, licensed but with only one breeding bitch, great health results, low COI etc. So this just didn’t feel right from the off - so we went with our gut and judging from these replies I’m very glad we did!
