Hi, would anyone recommend this product? My lab has very soft poos which are difficult to pick up and often there is some left on the grass ( sorry tmi) when we are walking. I would like to be able to clean up after him properly.

I wouldn’t bother with it, it’s just unnecessary chemicals on the grass.

I’d maybe look at his food to see if you can get him doing harder poos, maybe grain free if not already?

I just looked it up ,ignore my chemical comment!
Still wouldn’t bother though Grin

Sorry, not tried this but I sympathise.

My lab had this issue and takes Protexin fibre . There are generics too from Vet UK for example.. it made a huge difference to his anal glands too as they were not emptying properly due to the soft stools.

WeeHaggisFace · 02/02/2022 13:50

Spoonful of pumpkin puree in every meal will sort him out.

Orangejuicey · 02/02/2022 13:53

My puppy has had soft stools since we got him and it was only about 4 months in, having tried different foods, that I bought some Pooch and mutt digestion supplement. Game changer! Nice solid poos and no more issues with smelly anal glands.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 02/02/2022 15:40

Hmm, I think you need to look at changing his diet - sloppy poo like that isn't normal and can cause issues with their anal glands not emptying.

What food is he getting at the moment?

katedan · 02/02/2022 17:46

He is on purina beta for dogs, we were adding extra protein but that made it worse, he is a lab what do others feed labs?

Change food. That's not normal if it's every day. Poop should be kickable!

WhatScratch · 02/02/2022 17:54

My dog had that issue. I swapped her to grain free food. Within a week she was producing normal poo. For some dogs chicken can cause similar issues. If they don’t produce normal poo it can lead to anal gland problems and eventually infections.

FelicityBeedle · 02/02/2022 17:55

Just a reminder than grain free food is causing dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs and there’s lots of evidence for this.

Suzi888 · 02/02/2022 17:59

We use Forthglade dog dinners, James Wellbeloved, Royal canin - not all at once but my Lab has ibs and he’s been fine on those.
Arden Grange caused massive issues.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/02/2022 18:31

@FelicityBeedle that's linked to legume and potato based foods.

A high quality food like Eden which has a sweet potato carb base is absolutely fine.

WhatScratch · 02/02/2022 18:31

Mine gets www.morepetfoods.co.uk/more-dog-support-turkey-400g this with kibble, because of the concerns over grain free food. Her kibble is also over 50% meat.

What's the protein base? It could be an intolerance to the protein rather than an issue with the food itself. Chicken (for example) is a surprisingly common allergen.

We feed Harringtons which works fine for our dog but honestly, different foods suit different dogs. It's often a case of trial and error!
