Boring recommendations needed

Hi - I'm starting a really boring thread here...

  1. Are there any poo bag brands which are easy to open? I really don't want to have to lick my fingers to open them partly because Covid, and partly because I've often just dealt with a previous one minutes before.
  1. I'm missing my slippers this winter after my old pair died at the hands (mouth) of my puppy. Any suggestions for a type which aren't that attractive to puppies, or would be less easy to destroy? I find it easy to keep my shoes away from him, but slippers are different; they're often left by the bed, or by the sofa if you have your feet up etc. At the moment I'm resorting to multiple layers of socks but I'm hoping there's a better way!

1 - open a load of bags before you go for your walk and have them open in your pocket. I'm a dog walker and do this and it's never been a problem.

2 - the only way to stop shoes being destroyed is to keep them away from your puppies' reach, unfortunately! Mine is four next month and he'll still grab my slippers and run off with them when the mood takes him Grin

I do the same as fairylightsandwaxmelts. In fact I have a fabric hanging tube dispenser thing (similar to this) for storing carrier bags that I fill with pre-opened poo bags. I keep it by the back door, so I can easily grab a ready-to-go bag on my way out. I buy biodegradable bags by the box and it holds about 80-100, so really convenient. I keep loads in my dog walking coat pockets or in the summer, in my dog-walking bag and just replace the ones I’ve used from the dispenser when I get back, ready for my next walk.

Slippers - we use the lined crocs. Not all that stylish or attractive and pups do still like to chomp on them, but they tend to survive longer than traditional slippers. All shoes are kept out of pup’s way and the fleece lined ankle wellies I have for garden trips are on a second shelf in the back porch.

Glad it's not just me. Drives me crazy standing with numb fingers in the freezing cold trying to open a poo bag. When I remember I pre prepare them at home.

I thought our almost 1 year old dog had grown out of running off with slippers, but she stole one directly off my foot the other day and plucked all the sheepskin out of it as if she were plucking a chicken!

Agree with the open bags.

Re slippers or any other item the dogs are prone to steal - Bitter Apple spray - use liberally for a couple of weeks and that will put the dog off picking them up.

I think better quality bags are often easier to open

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/01/2022 17:38

I cannot believe I have only just figured out that I should open up the poo bags before the walks after 2 months of dog ownership and freezing numb fumbling near steaming piles of shit.

Don't lick your fingers - lick the bag. It's touched far less than your hands (assuming its on a roll in a dispensing pouch, obviously not if its been rolling around your car floor or something) so should be much cleaner.

You're all brilliant - thanks for the tips! I worry that I will forget to take bags with me if I depend on having them pre-opened and in my pocket, so will keep a backup roll on the lead for just in case!

I do think that the current rolls I have are more difficult to open, so I think there is truth in the fact that better quality ones are easier. Trouble is I can't remember what I used to have. See - terrible memory!
