Any recommendations please for a food similarly gentle on a dogs digestion for a fussy dog who's turning their nose up at Chappie?
Thank you Smile

Specific do a digestive support in a wet version. We swapped from this to Chappie when she started refusing the specific after a few years. More expensive though but good quality and our vet said they use it for post op dogs in their practice as it’s so gentle on their digestive system

Wet or dry?

FindingMeno · 18/01/2022 18:04

Have you tried Hills ID? The vast majority of dogs like it!

FindingMeno · 18/01/2022 18:40

Thank you @Miss2018 and @Poniesandgin for your suggestions.
The prices are very steep though Shock.

I haven’t found any food wet foods but I do use a hypoallergenic dry which has been brilliant for my sensitive dogs. Might not be great if yours is fussy though Grin

FindingMeno · 18/01/2022 18:50

@Poniesandgin yes, fussy and sensitive isn't a very helpful mix Grin

Butcher tripe. Mine’s is sensitive. tripe is like a probiotic for dogs.

The dog is having solid bowel movement since changing to butchers

wetotter · 20/01/2022 14:36

Do you know what they're sensitive to?

Royal Canin do a chicken and rice, which is generally low impact, but it's expensive! And no use if chicken is the problem

pigsDOfly · 20/01/2022 14:39

My dog loves her Royal Canin chicken flavour Sensitive wet food (duck flavour is also available).

Very similar in make up to Chappie with a slightly higher protein content.

She has a very sensitive stomach and it keeps her very well.

It's quite expensive but I buy it online so a lot cheaper than it would be from the vet.

This is the sensitive one my dog is on.

She can't eat fresh chicken at all but she is fine on the chicken and rice Royal Canin, makes you wonder how much chicken is actually in it.

I didn't find out about her problem with fresh chicken until she'd been on the Royal Canin food for some time.

Bunnymummy2 · 20/01/2022 14:47

We have changed to Naturo tinned for our sensitive boy, he loves it (and it is a good deal less smelly than Chappie)

Hugasauras · 20/01/2022 14:49

I wouldn't bother with Hills or Royal Canin. V expensive for the quality.

There are a lot of grain-free wet foods that are quite gentle. My dog has a bit of a sensitive tum and she does well on Forthglade trays.

Hugasauras · 20/01/2022 14:51

And www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/ is handy for finding good quality new foods

thesunwillout · 20/01/2022 14:54

Dog was on Sainsbury's grain free wet pouches in jelly. Hated the gravy version tho.
It also comes in tins.

We're now on Morrisons grain free wet pouches.
Loves it, but I only give it as a topping on James wellbeloved turkey and rice.

Tried Forthglade chicken and potato dry and she hated it despite liking s dry/wet food bowl combo.

BunnyRuddington · 20/01/2022 17:11

Have you tried mixing a little of the dried Chappie in with it to give it a bit of a crunch? Our DDog also sometimes likes grated carrot on hers as a topper Smile

bossyboo · 20/01/2022 19:44

Another vote for butchers tripe. My dog has a very sensitive tum and has James well beloved grain free dry food but every other day she has a tin of butchers tripe and has been fine! Worth a try for the price you can't do wrong!Smile

SummerSazz · 20/01/2022 20:28

We get carnilove wet food and kibble with the kibble as a meal topper. It is expensive but you need about half the amount compared to Butchers and I buy in bulk usually with discounts.

Fussy and sensitive here too and having tried 5 different brands and a range of raw/dried/wet this is one she's eaten for a year and not gone off. She liked Butchers but the poo's were incredible!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 20/01/2022 21:07

Butchers tripe in tins, it's the only one my ddog will eat and doesn't play his stomach up.
