Dog has extreme flatulence

My 12 year old Collie has developed extreme flatulence, and when I say extreme, it is utterly shockingly disgusting. She never used to fart at all, but this came on before Christmas, and has been getting worse.

She had bad diarrhoea. The vet tried antibiotics, which improved things. But the flatulence has got worse and worse. He tried her on Royal Canin GI food, then Purina, and having tested her stool, which was OK, he has her on Hills GI Biome dry food. She is eating well, even put on a bit of weight.

However there is absolutely no improvement re the flatulence.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions on what worked for your dog.

You could try some pre and probiotics? Pro-Kolin or Synbiotic DC.

What about trying raw? It's far easier to identify the culprit food, on raw.

Our vet suggest pre biotics too. Can't remember the name but were on prescription. We haven't used them but will if his colitis reappears. As they are for gut health I imagine they would help with farting

Ddog had this, and gave out what we called Farts of Doom.

We got him checked by a vet because he wasn't himself and he had a twist in his bowel which in the end required surgery. So it would probably be worth taking them to the vet and just getting them checked over.

He's since been on pre and pro biotics and has been fine since.

Thanks for your replies.

I forgot that she has been given probiotic powders to scatter on her dinner.

I can't bear the thought of raw meat, so wont go down that route.

I changed her breakfast and dinner round yesterday, to see if having a bigger meal earlier in the day helps, not sure if it will.

Farts of Doom - I'm stealing that!

We had this with our dog, found this tip on an owners site as our dog breed is prone to gassiness 😳. Try adding 1 tsp coconut oil to their food, it worked for us with no ill effects. Good luck
