Pup in season, very sleepy, normal?

My puppy has come into season today, we thought it would be soon as we’ve noticed the signs. She seemed ‘off’ today and then we noticed the blood just before 10 tonight. She’s been quite happy to laze about most of the day, I just wondered if that’s normal? She wanted to come home after about 5 minutes on her walk this afternoon and refused to go on one tonight (hid when we got the harness out), before we noticed the blood.

She’s been eating and drinking fine and had a long chew on a pig snout, but just wants to laze about and has put herself to bed at 10 and not moved much since!

She’s my first dog so I do worry. Also kicking myself for dithering about getting her done before or after her first season but I guess that’s been decided for me now!

Normal from our experience! Extra sleepy and cuddly.

Ahh, thank you so much! I’m glad it’s normal. She looks so sad today, I do feel sorry for her Sad

Yep mine was lazy and off food for first few days and a bit grumpy with the kids. She bled for 2 weeks, we just saw spots of blood occasionally as she kept herself clean mostly. We did on lead pavement walks for 4 weeks avoiding other dogs, she was fine though didn't seem to mind as we varied the routes, did more training and puzzle toys at home.

@Aria20 - did you do lead walks from home? I've read that some say to drive away from home to avoid luring boys back to your house :-)

Two of Ada's sisters have just had their first season so we've been thinking about what we'd do.

@tizwozliz yea I just did lead walks from home, I read that too but we didn't have any issues. Both neighbours have boy dogs but they have both been neutered. We just crossed over and changed direction if we saw any other dog walkers whilst out, we didn't have any chasing or following us!

We are hopefully coming towards the end of our Dog's first season. She has definitely been a little more sleepy/lazy than usual. She has been eating and drinking normally.
We have been doing on lead walks only. All local. Crossing the road when other dogs approach and explaining to other dog walkers who want to interact that she is in season. Everyone is very understanding. We have had no dogs chasing her or hanging around outside the house.

Thank you all for your insight! It’s much appreciated. She’s been playing a bit today but definitely sleepier / cuddlier than normal. Eating and drinking normally though. She’s getting lots of attention Smile
