Stopping dog eating from cat tray!

It’s driving me absolutely insane!! We have an open top tray so assumed she wouldn’t be able to get to it, apparently she will find a way!
The minute she gets chance to be in the room where it is she’s in there! How do I stop it?

The only way to stop it is to put the tray somewhere only the cat can access - so use a babygate or a cat flap to block the dogs' access.

We have a dog and three indoor cats and have largely just given up Grin

Stairgate.

Honestly no amount of training stopped my dog. He'd leave it when I could catch him in the act, but he'd just wait until I was asleep and merrily wake me up with a big cat turd hanging out of his mouth.

Moving the litter tray to a gated-off area is the only way.

I use a Bettacare pet gate (available on Amazon), which is tall enough to stop my dog but has a flap for the cats.

We used a stairgate. If you have a small dog, it's cheaper to buy a baby stairgate than a pet one, as you don't pay VAT on the baby ones. The cat will soon learn to leap over the gate but you can help the cat get used to it by putting a dining chair either side to begin with.

Hi,
I agree with other posters that prevention is going to be the most reliable thing, cat poo is irresistible (apparently). Depending on whether your dog is bigger than your cat, you can get (or DIY) sideboard cupboards which the litter tray goes in. Or if you have an upstairs room you can put the litter tray in, you can also get stair gates with cat size holes in so older cats (that can't jump over) can still get around the house whilst keeping baby's/dogs secure. There's also the more expensive option of the self-cleaning litter trays which automatically put the poo into a separate compartment, but this depends on budget and how determined your dog is because I imagine some could be broken into.
Best of luck
