As we all know Greyhounds are extremely lazy. Mine takes himself off to bed when I blow the candles out start putting lights off etc. He races up stairs to get prime position in the bed. Tonight I stayed up later as I was working. Bold boy came down and started barking at me. Did he want a drink?, need out for a poo? Nope it was get yourself up to bed woman way past your bed time. He is currently lying against me in bed snoring away. Love him to bits. Pic just because he is cute x

At 10 pm our ddogs get up from their lounge beds... Except 1. The biggest. As a dpuppy quite a few kgs ago she didn't want to go to bed so dh had to carry her downstairs to bed.. Now she is 25 kg and he still has to do it. He hasn't grasped he actually trained her to wait for a carry..

My greyhound / husky / malamute / collie glares at you A LOT from about 9pm if you have the cheek to be in the living room (where she sleeps) after her self appointed bedtime.

My Basset Hound rules me with a paw of iron Grin. She tells me very clearly with her eyes exactly what she wants me to do - whether it's move my legs on the sofa so she can lie on top of me in her favourite way, or make her a cup of tea or go to bed. Once we're upstairs for bed she'll be annoyed by the bedside light being on if I'm reading and will sometimes complain and huff until I put it out. She won't settle down properly under the duvet until I'm in bed, with the light out, and she's lying on top of me. Sometimes I wonder how she can breathe so easily under such a thick duvet.

Our little cairn terrier used to take herself up to the bedroom to bed. If we didn't follow her fairly soon she would come onto the landing (which overlooked the sitting room) put her head though the railings and use a particular type of bark to indicate that she expected us upstairs. She would also sign with her head turning it towards the bedroom. If we didn't obey within five minutes she would be out again with a very exasperated mix of a growl and a bark.

@Seainasive, my greyhound sleeps downstairs on her own, with radio 4 on lowGrin. On the sofa that we weren't going to let her go on. Grin

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 06/01/2022 12:14

Seainvasive, mine sleeps in my room but I made it v clear she isn't to get into my bed.
She will sometimes if I'm not in it, or if she thinks I am distracted eg by a phone call.
But I dont let her sleep in it because she has a sleep startle and would get upset if she woke up and I dared to be in my own bed.

They do commandeer couches though, generally.

@Seemslikeagoodidea

Ha, ha, he's got you well trained! Smile Lovely pics - they make me wish I wasn't allergic to dogs.
I'm allergic to dogs, but my partner has three greys and I'm fine with them.

Mine sleeps on the sofa and also gives me a hard stare from about 830pm until I get off it and leave him to it!

EssexLioness · 06/01/2022 17:29

Our late spaniel used to love bedtime. At precisely 9pm every night he would go sit on the bed and bark repeatedly until you went to bed. He wouldn’t even come into the lounge to collect you - just summon you from the other room, like we were staff! 😬 he was such a sweet boy but he knew exactly what he wanted and was very clear at letting you know!
Our other boy is happy chilling in another room until bedtime, then he will come into the lounge and sit right infront of you, staring until you get up

Urghh...glopping.

Mine usually sleeps in the lounge but knows fine he can come up with me when dh is working overnight. When I start putting lights out he's off to the back door, has a quick pee and then races up the stairs.

When dh is home I quite often go to bed first. Then, ddog will come up with me and pretend he didn't realise dh was home!

Here he is!

Thanks for all messages. No they can be trained to stay in their own beds. Joey just likes to keep his options open. He makes the rounds of very ones bed at night. Just to keep us safe you understand and to snuggle into a warm bit.

Ah I love this. My dog just takes herself up to my bed when she is ready. Sometimes I go up and she is asleep on my pillow and I have to fight her for it

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 07/01/2022 23:15

I've a GSD so there's a good deal of supervision that goes on, if I am up I have company.

However, once the bedtime busys have been done it is officially bed time and WOE BETIDE ME if I am malingering about downstairs when he is waiting on the stairs for me to hurry the hell up.

He will stamp up the last half of the stairs if he has been kept waiting and will throw himself onto his bed to show his disapproval

Sometimes I sneak up there just to see if he is really awake or asleep on the sofa, he will burst into the bathroom to check I am not escaping down the U-bend or out the window. He will even nosy around the shower curtain to make sure I am in there.

He won't get on the bed at night, even when dh is not there, and I say he could if he wanted because apparently that's not nice manners. He WILL come up on the bed if I go up to malinger about, read, make phone calls or have a nap in the afternoon. He is strange.
