To rehome a greyhound?

Just love them, calm, affectionate and not needing the huge amount of exercise that some people think is necessary (although would give it a good run in an enclosed space once/twice a week). I also think they’re utterly beautiful although some people would disagree. My only concern is that I have a small house (plenty of sofa space though!), tiny garden and work 4 days a week and am out of the house for 6 hours on those days. AIBU to think I’m in a position to rehome an ex-racer (there seem to be a lot in the rescues now).

Be prepared to need a dog-walker in at midday for a walk, some company and a toilet break.

Greys do sleep a lot so are great for people who work, but six hours is still quite a long period of time alone, especially for a dog that's still settling into your home.

They are the perfect companion dogs, I'd adore one but our rescue lab is possessive and can't live with another dog. I would agree that 6 hours is too long to leave one on its own though - 4 is probably the max and you may need to build up to that very slowly. They're used to having kennel mates and people around.

Greyhounds are dream dogs - very affectionate and super calm. I had a lovely rescue and will have another in the future..

Have taken note that someone will need to pop in at lunchtime on days I work. Luckily have DP who has a sight hound (and a rough collie) who’s retired (DP that is not dog) so hopefully he can step in!

When dc are older we want rescue greyhounds but have had 2 of ours since a dpuppy and one at aged 7.
2 Lurchers so a bit smaller. And 1 saluki /deerhound cross.

I rehomed a pair of greyhounds, brothers from the same litter, not ex-racers but Irish hare coursing dogs. No regrets here, they're very happy in our small house with small garden.

We mainly work from home, they can be left for 3-4 hours. 6 would be too long for ours, and they'd not be happy with a quick visit at lunch, but they're all different. We had to work up to leaving them over time as they were really clingy for the first few months.

Our two are completely different personalities. One the 'typical' chilled sofa surfer. The other nervous, fearful of men and younger children, needs a lot of space and careful management. Would recommend rehoming from a charity where they go into foster first if possible as can help to get an understanding of personality, but to be fair ours are still changing 18 months in. Adore them and cant see myself with another breed.

We adapted our boy just over 2 years ago. We have a cat and asked for a "cat trainable" dog - rehoming people routinely look for cat friendly dogs. Our cat and hound live in respectful harmony with the cat being the boss. I adore my pointy hound, he is funny, gentle and v v lazy. Would love to get another but would need to be cat trainable also....

My last two were inseparable - but also loved a good sofa stretch !
