Greyhound and night waking! Please help!

I've had my greyhound 4 months now and he always slept through just pooing first thing and on his morning walk. Occasionally on a lunch walk .

His poos were sloppy so I've recently been giving him 1/4 tin of chappie am as well as forthglade (also as he lost a lot of weight).

I'm going to stop the chappie I think as he keeps waking for a poo (just bought 24 tins!!)

The issue is he is very nervous and quite hard to walk as he freezes a lot. He will not walk in-the dark so since night wakings I've been walking him at 4 and he will poo. He's become scared of our garden in the dark due to cats (does have massive prey drive but has just discovered them)

He often wakes up at this time (11) and won't go outside but is barking too! I push him outside (upstairs!). He won't poo. Just stands still forever. So I give up. This carries on at 1 and then usually at 3am he will poo. Again I am pushing him out . It's hell!

Hoping stopping the chappie will stop the pooing. He has lost 5kg since I adopted though. The chappie solved the sloppy poo too.

Why does he wake and bark to go out then won't go out? I shut him in the living room so he can't see the cats/foxes outside but he still wakes but won't go out without being forced .

He's just woken and we've done the rigmarole and now he's gone on his bed rather than sofa which ALWAYS means he will bark to go out again in an hour or so.

He's a gentle giant and gorgeous softy but there are more times I regret adopting him than not , it's just so hard and so tiring .

And we've done it again and no poo. I feel it's weakening the bond we were creating as I get so frustrated with him standing in the dark for so long and end up pushing him out then pulling him in. Then he looks at me with his beautiful eyes telling me I don't understand!

He walks much better with dd there so I think tomorrow I will feed at 4 and insist she comes with me at 6 (she's 13, but always some reason she doesn't come). And give up the chappie and see if it helps.

Just now he was playing in the living room then started scratching at the door to the kitchen. Then went outside and sniffed around where the squirrels come in for ages. Then stood still....

Finally on the sofa now which bodes well but I still expect another awakening soon!

He has pJs and the house isn't cold

If he's lost that much weight he needs to see a vet, there could be all sorts of reasons for why he's behaving this way. Please please made an appointment asap.

Yes, he definitely needs to see a vet, that's a big weight loss. When we adopted our greyhound it took a long time to get her tummy to settle. She had a very persistent case of worms that took a high dose, intensive worming regime to get rid of them. Once they had gone and we found a food that suited her her tummy improved.

Also does your dog wear a coat/pyjamas at night? Could he be waking up because he's cold? We're in a modern house so it doesn't get that cold but our girl has a coat and a blanket over her at night at this time of year.

Sorry missed your very last line about PJs!

I've not weighed him since the first time (4 weeks in) as he won't go in the vets again after nail clipping. He went from 33 to 27kg but he was super muscly and has clearly lost muscle , he doesn't look too skinny and I've asked various greyhound owners their opinion as well. Most of them said also it could be nerves as he is such an anxious boy. I think he has put some back on.

I'll keep working on desensitising to the vet and try and get him inside to use the scales and see where we are and will see the vet if he's lost more/hasn't put some on.

He's not woken again so I'm wondering if it's maybe attention seeking / cat obsession. It's not separation anxiety as he's not scratching the door I come through and It's different behaviour behaviour to how he behaves in the day (he has SA but again am working on this - made it to 45 mins today 😁)

His poos are perfect since chappie ! He's definitely sensitive to some foods but have worked out which and a small amount of chappie really seems to settle him- he's not even that farty now !

Sorry from 32 to 27kg
I did give him extra forthglade for a bit so will give him an extra half tray as elevenses again . It's just so pricey I was hoping to give 2x forthglade plus chappie/sardine/ egg etc on top
