Intermittent vomiting and foul breath

DDog (who is prone to colitis - likely stress induced and possible chicken intolerance) has been vomiting every now and again; 3 times over last week. He had a couple of days after 1st puke when he seemed to have tummy pain (lots of stretching and lying in sphinx like position) and didn't eat for 24 hours. He seems his usual lively self now and is hungry but randomly pukes (undigested meals) now and again.Think some meals are staying down but can't be sure as he is in and out of the garden in the dark. His breath is intermittently foul (feculent).
Don't think there is a doggy vomiting bug going around at the moment, we usually hear about them from fellow local dog walkers.

Managed to get a vet appointment for Wednesday but wondered if anyone has experience of this or suggestions of how to manage it.

Stretching like that is associated with cranial abdominal pain, e.g. pancreatitis or sometimes gall bladder issues etc. Keep him on a bland diet until your appointment and absolutely no rich or fatty foods. Your vet will likely need to do some diagnostic tests so maybe fast him the day of your appointment too.

Would be suspicious of pancreatitis
Def vet check

There is a bug going around in some places. Give your vet a call and they will confirm.

Thanks for your replies, have now worried myself Googling pancreatitis!
Would he be running around like a loon (he was doing zoomies around the park earlier) if it was pancreatitis?
He definitely has episodes every 3-6 months of GI upset, usually very loud gurgling guts for a day or so which sometimes culminates in bloody, mucousy diarrhoea and then he recovers (he tends to eat grass which acts as a laxative). He doesn't usually vomit unless there's a bug around (or he's in the car - gets v carsick so rarely travels)

Our vet is only open alternate days at the moment, hence weds pm appointment, it'll be close to prolonged bank holiday shut down by then too Confused

TBH Google will probably mostly tell you about severe acute pancreatitis, sometimes it can be more of a grumbling thing that needs controlling with diet.

Obviously this is all conjecture anyway as nobody can diagnose your boy on the Internet. It could be something totally different. If he's bright and eating etc then no need to panic.

My dog has also been the same recently, bar the bloody poo so I'm interested to hear what you vet says.
My girls recently come off a hydrolysed only diet and as she was vomiting up the meal she'd literally just eaten,I tried giving her some dog probiotics I had in the cupboard which seems to have addressed the vomiting.
Let us know how it goes at the vets?

Girlintheframe · 21/12/2021 06:57

Our dog was like this when he was eating foods he has allergies too. He is now on a fish based diet and doing well. He too is prone to colitis. His gut seems generally quite sensitive

He seems to have stopped vomiting and is hungry but his breath is revolting (almost worse than his farts!)
Still seems to be having intermittent belly ache, gets a bit withdrawn, stretching a lot and looking miserable but then perks up and is really playful.
He's at the vet tomorrow, will report back

Vet report (via DH), abdomen soft, temp normal and he did bloods (I think as part of his annual health check as well as checking out his recent symptoms) which showed "all his organs are functioning normally", presume it was liver and renal bloods but not certain. Results were within 30 mins. He's come home with 5 days of omeprazole and a shaved leg!

My girls been similar to yours, and I found a few days of probiotics stopped the vomiting?

LakeFlyPie · 27/12/2021 13:53

Vomiting has stopped 🤞
Have split his food into 3 meals a day, one before bed.
He's keen to go on walks but definitely isn't quite his normal self, intermittently lethargic more so in the evenings and the unpleasant smell is still there, almost a bit cheesy / fungal smelling at times (not as poo-ey now!) Can't quite work out where it's coming from, not convinced it's just his breath, have had a sniff off his ears, paws etc. Seems to come in waves, especially in the evening. Rather strange.
Might pay another visit to the vet when they reopen on weds if he's still not 100%

What probiotics do you use please?
