We've had ddog since he was 8 weeks old, he's 15 next June.
He's had a great happy healthy life no problems at all with him.

This past week or so he's really starting to drive me and dp crazy. He's been barking and either wanting to go out or have more water every couple of hours from about 11pm to 6am and it's really starting to affect us now. If we ignore or tell him to go back on his bed then we wake up to 2-3 wees on the floor. He's also had a bit of diarrhoea so we are waking up to that as well.
We love him dearly but it's all getting to much now, he's fine through the day just at night. It's like having a new born all over again.
Has this happened to anyone else's older dog, any advice or tips please?

Have you been to the vets? It isn't clear from your OP whether you have and that would be the first I would do to see if there was any medication to help or an underlying condition to treat?

dazzlerdo · 20/12/2021 07:20

@BiteyShark we have an appointment at the vets, but it's not until the 28th. The only time they can fit us in

That's poor given your dog has started to drink more water than normal but maybe I am spoilt as my vets are very good at squeezing you in.

In which case I think I would be tempted to use an alarm and get up to take him out for toileting to try and avoid the accidents.

Veterinari · 20/12/2021 07:40

Ring around and see if you can get an urgent appt faster.

I'd be worried about an infection/kidney issues with the drinking and diarrhoea
Infections can also cause confusion/behaviour changes

He very likely has underly cognitive decline also

icedcoffees · 20/12/2021 07:48

I think your dog needs to see a vet now, not in eight days time.

The barking sounds like dementia and confusion, and the toileting issues could be kidney disease or failure.

He needs to see a vet.

TheDogsMother · 20/12/2021 08:30

I think you need to push them for an urgent appointment or find another vet. Our old boy was like this with the water and diarrhoea and the vet scanned him. I'm sorry to say it was liver and kidney issues. Dogs are very good at disguising pain. Do you have a Pets at Home nearby ? A lot of them have vet practices in house.

Tiredteacher100 · 20/12/2021 08:33

I would suspect dementia, my friends dog has this and it sounds similar

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2021 08:35

Get an emergency appointment it does sound like a UTI or something I I don't thinkhe is going to stop needing or house weeing with tips and advice. Phone today.

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2021 08:37

The random barking is usually confusion .

Mrsjayy · 20/12/2021 08:42

Sorry I meant to add, my vet said about the barking.

GoodnightGrandma · 20/12/2021 08:46

Sounds like diabetes/urine/kidney problem with some doggie dementia.
I’d push for an earlier appointment.

tabulahrasa · 20/12/2021 11:54

I’d definitely try to get an appointment sooner.

I don’t know if it is similar in dogs, but in people, UTIs in the elderly can cause dementia like symptoms...
