Washing dog after rolling in smelly stuff

Our dog (large mixed breed, almost 2 years old) absolutely loves rolling in smelly stuff - dead seagulls, poo, you name it. If I let her off lead, she's gonna roll! Do you have any ideas please in the easiest and most effective way to wash her off?

We usually wash her in the bathtub but it takes two people and then the bathtub itself gets nasty and needs to be cleaned afterwards. I've tried the "fox poo" spray also and while it helps with the spray it doesn't really make her pleasant enough for cuddles on my lap. I saw a "mud daddy" on amazon which has mixed reviews. Does anyone have one and what do you think? Can you put warm water in it? Any other system or way of doing it that works please? Thank you.

My older lab does this. We call him a stinkador rather than a Labrador because he’s so fond of it. Mud daddy with Animology Fox Poo shampoo does the job brilliantly (also you can put warm water in it - we do that for the younger lab who loves mud so needs a wash after most walks but never rolls….but the stinkador gets cold water 😂)

Tomato ketchup for the smell.

My medium sized dog gets washed in the bath tub (with the shower head). So he's soaked with the shower, then we wash him with ketchup and rinse, then puppy shampoo and rinse, then he goes in his drying coat and the shower gets a quick rinse after. It takes about 5-10 minutes.

Shower cubicle cause I have one, lol, before that garden hose tbh.

AwkwardPaws27 · 12/12/2021 13:33

Animology fox poo shampoo here too.
He's also wearing an equafleece now it's wet and muddy so I cab wash that instead Grin

Another recommendation for Equafleece, it keeps the worst of the muck off the fur and skin.

My jrt lands in poo neck/shoulder first (so not rolling on her back iyswim) but she's more protected by the high neck of the Equafleece, it's the closest thing I've found to a solution. Also she seems to have grown out of it or maybe wearing the coat puts her off, idk, it's less of a problem than it used to be.

The dog walker recommends wiping down with vinegar asap, then bathing as usual when we get home.

Sorry I meant to say I wash her in a bucket in the garden (I bring another bucket of warm water and pour it over her with a cup to wet and rinse) but maybe that's not practical for a bigger dog!

Ketchup.

The dog I walk loves to honk of fox.

Moch. Smile

An equafleece sounds like a very good idea, and much easier to wash than a big wriggly pup. Thank you, I will try that and she will maybe get a mud daddy as well for Christmas. It will come out of her toys budget Xmas Grin.

Rather than a Mud Daddy, get a USB rechargeable shower. You get a really good pressure with the one we have, and it goes in a bucket/ water carrier or whatever so its easy to have a bucket with shampoo in and one of plain water. If we are going somewhere they will be filthy I take a camping water container in the car and a flask of boiling water so I can hose them down, plus you can clean wellies off

Stinkador 😂😂😂
friedeggandsauce · 12/12/2021 18:29

We've a mud daddy, it's made things easier!

SpeckledlyHen · 12/12/2021 18:30

My older girl no longer rolls since I have perfected the fox poo (or any other shit) anti roll roar/bellow combo.. However, when she was young and not learned yet I use to rinse her with the outside tap and clean her with fox poo shampoo. She is not easily to lift (long and heavy) and to be honest I didn't really want her in my shower. I only ever soaked the bit's that were dirty rather than her whole body and dried her off quickly so she didn't get cold.

SpeckledlyHen · 12/12/2021 18:30

Equafleece Tanki also a great way to go if your dog can bear to wear coats/clothes. Mine hates them so I would rather wash her off than make her wear coats.

NotJustACigar · 13/12/2021 12:01

Thank you @SpeckledlyHen as I wasn't sure which equafleece to get. I think she'll wear it - she'll do anything in exchange for a walk Grin.

My muddaddy arrived today and I used it for the first time- absolutely brilliant and very easy to use. I really recommend it for anyone with a smelly dog like mine. It's very easy to use - I added dog shampoo and warm water from the sink, stuck it and the dog outside, pumped it up to pressure and away we went. It took two minutes and was so much quicker and easier than the bathtub method!
