Can I ask a question to anyone who has used a dog sitter in their own home (for holidays)

How does your dog feel when dog sitter arrives? Are they happy to see them or do they not like it cos it means family are going away for a week?

Not sure if I am overthinking. I am coming round to thinking this is best plan for my dog. But just thinking through potential issues. She is normally very friendly to everyone. But I think she would be sad for us to be going away.

My dogs don't bat an eyelid. They welcome in the sitter and barely give us a second glance as we leave.

This may hurt Smile but it is highly unlikely that your dog will be sad to see you go (unless you have attachment issues) they will be happy to welcome in their new friend.

Thanks that doesn’t hurt at all. Very glad to hear. She is a border collie so they are very loyal and loving. But she is quite outgoing too so think should be ok

I am a dog walker/sitter - most of the dogs are all over me as soon as I walk in the door and don't pay their owners any notice whatsoever Grin

I once turned up at a house at the same time as the owner for a walk - the three dogs were all over me and when the owner tried calling them to him, they totally ignored him Grin

Mine are collies too - they pretend to be loyal and doting and then just like that give their love to the sitter.......

I get photos of them with their heads on her lap looking adoringly into her eyes

My dog is completely overexcited when the sitter comes . I don't think he links it to me leaving .

I'm currently agonising over whether to use home boarding instead as it's so much cheaper ! But I know he's fine with the sitter.

Turquoisesol · 07/12/2021 17:58

Ah this is very reassuring. Yes home boarding is a lot cheaper, but I feel having her at her own house is more reliable.

I have 2 Border Collies and I have to get a person next year to look after them in my home.I think,Collies really like routine and their familiar surroundings.Plus if you live somewhere with very easy access to walks, its much easier for the sitter.

Turquoisesol · 07/12/2021 18:12

Thanks. I spent a lot of time researching home boarders but I began to think that could be more stressful than kennels in a way, having new family to learn their way of doing things. And also having other dogs there without me to monitor (overprotective dog mum!)

Mine wouldn't care as long as he was fed (labrador!), walked, his treat ball was filled up each night and had some company.

@Turquoisesol yeah I think I feel the same. But the cost for me is an extra £400 a week!!
