Can someone recommend a probiotic?

Ddog currently having his 2nd bout of colitis after eating something dodgy I assume.

Just been to o.o.h vet who has given him treatment. She says it maybe be worth trying a probiotic with him and recommend a couple we could possibly get from them.

Does anyone use them and have they helped?

My dog is on the Yumove digestion tablets and I do think they help - although stopping my husband constantly sharing biscuits / dinner etc with the dog has also helped .

Our lab puppy had several bout of upset stomach and we've used two kinds of probiotics: prokolin- the vet prescribed this one - it's a paste that you squeeze into their mouth in measured doses. You can get it cheaper in pharmacies who do animal medications. The other I read about through a Labrador breed forum and it's called protexin profibre. I got it from Amazon. It's in granular form and you mix it in with their food. Both worked very welll. Our cheeky monkey kept leaving the granules and eating his kibble.

I know a breeder who gives his dogs natural live yogurt in with their food daily

Ps our pup is 8 months and hasn't had any stomach issues since we gave him probiotics

My terrier has IBD (flares up with bloody vomit/poo/mucous if he eats meat protein or certain treats/biscuits) - he's been on a hydrolysed soya protein diet for a year which resolved the worst of the symptoms and helped him gain weight again, but he still had consistently loose, mucousy poo.

Vet finally recommended adding Pro-Kolin Cobalaplex (vitamin B) AND Pro-Kolin Enterogenic powders to his food every day. Since he's been on that combination - which appears to line the intestine - he's had 99% normal formed poos and hasn't had a single flare up in 3 months, even when he got into a rubbish bag and ate the remnants of a leg of lamb and 8 chipolatas. 😲

Every dog is different of course, but the powders are worth a try if it's going to be daily for the rest of his life?

One of mine has IBD. I keep ProKalin on standby for flare ups but give yoghurt often.
The thing that has helped her most has been switching from the expensive so called wonderful food to bog standard tinned Chappie mixed with her regular breed specific kibble. Years ago, before all the fancy prescription digests it’s what vets always used to recommend for digestive problems. Mine can’t tolerate the usual chicken & rice recommended.

Diets not digests & chicken gives her terrible squirts.

My dog has a FortiFlora sachet every day and will do so probably for the rest of her life, as I definitely think it helps.

I also have a tube of Pro Kolin at home in case of problems - she has a tendency to eat inappropriate things when out on walks - but obviously that can only be given for a few days.

Always best to check prices for some of these things if they're not prescription medicines (which the ones I've got aren't. I've just found out that I can get a months worth of FortiFlora from Pets at Home nearly £9 cheaper than I've been paying at the vet.

Great, thanks so much for the suggestions. Will research them today and see if we can get one.
