Nail clipping - a story of hope :-D

Just in case this is useful...

My rescue pug is scared of practically everything. He has two nails which grow and curl into the pad if they aren't clipped four times a year.

Last time I took him to have his nails clipped, the vets said he was too distressed and he needed to have it done under sedation, at a cost of £200. So £800 per year, plus four sedations which is risky, especially for a flat faced dog.

I found a dog groomers who put him up into a cradle and did the fasted nail clip ever. For a fiver!!!

Anyway, I am beaming from ear to ear and my lovely pug has been richly rewarded with fish biscuit treats Grin

That sounds good. What kind of cradle. I have a lurcher. She was sedated and it was £60. I think your vet is overcharging!

I nearly fell over when they said it was £200!!!

The cradle is a hammock with holes for the legs - they put it underneath the dog and clip it up. It means they can't wriggle away and it is easier to just hold onto a leg which is dangling (if that makes any sense Confused

Anal glands, ear cleaning and of course nail clipping can all be done by a good groomer, no need for the vet.

Amazed at these charges. I’ve always done those things myself. No traumatic vet visits or even groomer fees. It really isn’t difficult with the right tools.
