Teeth cleaning

My digs are all six to seven years old and all have had good teeth. However, I have noticed that two of them have started to get a plaque build up.

I sprinkle Plaque X by Paw Originals on food but haven’t seen a difference although it does say it takes awhile to be effective.

Any recommendations for something I can use with a brush to clean them.

I can do anything with them so it won’t be a problem. I have used a brush with just water but that wasn’t effective.

Thank you.

Not tried Plaque X, but we use Plaque Off and that seems to keep any tartar that does appear soft enough to be able to flick off with a thumb nail (our vet showed us how to do this with a previous rescue dog).

Virbac Enzymatic toothpaste has always worked well for our dogs. We buy the poultry flavour and they will happily lick it off the toothbrush.

We also use Dentisept. It’s sticky, spreads across their teeth and gums and inhibits the bacteria that causes plaque and gingivitis. My 16 year old dog absolutely hates the taste of it (it smells like vanilla) but he has a tooth that really needs to be removed and is too elderly and unwell to have a general anaesthetic, so the vet advised use to Dentisept daily to keep the bacteria under control.

Thank you. Some great advice and ideas for products that I can have a look at.

Weirdly the plaque is only on one side the same side on both of the dogs affected.

It’s mainly on the long canine tooth.

Unfortunately they’re both asleep and sleeping on the wrong side for me to show you the teeth with plaque on but this is the the tooth that is getting a plaque build up.

Plaque Off and toothpaste from PAH.

Plaque Off is excellent, plus there are some fantastic natural chews that help clean teeth. Raw bones are one, but things like trachea and buffalo skin are great too.
