Three cats and one dog all scratching madly. What do folks recommend please? I have always used 'Frontline' but thought I would ask since it has been a while.

Indorex to do the house and contact your vet for effective treatment for your cats and dogs. Vet will be able to offer effective spot-on or oral treatement. That’s the quickest way to get rid of them.

spurs4ever · 23/11/2021 19:27

Just had the same. Treated the cat and dog with Advocat (I think that's what it is) plus a spray calledRIP Fleas from the vet. Seems to have cleared them up x

Cowpad · 23/11/2021 19:29

Frontline doesnt work anymore.I use Advocate and Fleas are a thing of the past.you might need pestcontrol to thoroughly deflea your house.

ANameChangeAgain · 23/11/2021 19:35

Good luck. I've been doing Itch once a month at the start of the month, Frontline once a month mid month and an occasional Bob Martin tablet when we see a flea or 5. This has been going on for 6 months now. I've just brought new dog bed so can chuck the old harder to wash ones out. Nothing is working. I've just read that the only thing that works is vet prescription flea treatments, which ironically will probably be cheaper.

With having had them for that long already, you really need prescription treatment for the dog and to treat your house thoroughly with a really effective spray as well. Frontline isn’t effective anymore, whereas Indorex is. Most vets sell it, but you can buy it elsewhere and online as well. It kills absolutely everything though. (Last time we used it we didn’t see a spider in our house for over a year and we’ve usually got loads of them.)

Fleas live in the cracks between carpets and skirting boards, between and under floorboards and any other teeny space they can lie dormant in, as well as obviously in your carpets, rugs and soft furnishing, so you have to be really thorough and will probably need repeated treatments if it’s already been going on for 6 months.

I am glad I asked. I was going to get Frontline but read somewhere it does not work any more

Seresto flea collars expensive and need to be on prescription from a vet but well worth it.

Both Itch and Frontline use the same active ingredient and it doesn't work anymore. The only non-prescription one that works is Advantage.

Our dog has bravecto, more to make sure he doesn't get ticks - he's never had a flea.

PugWhiskers · 24/11/2021 08:59

Wash all blankets/cushion covers etc, hoover, then Indorex and follow instructions for further hoovering. Advocate flea treatment and if they will tolerate it, one of [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Masterclip-Grooming-Rabbits-Effective-Ectoparasites/dp/B07RQMFDPD/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3N8KYWFSVFDRX&keywords=pet+flea+comb&qid=1637744255&sprefix=pet+flea%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-5]] these from Amazon - not enough by itself but gave us a headstart whilst everything else kicked in.

PugWhiskers · 24/11/2021 09:00

Also - if you have a car, don't forget to hoover and Indorex in there too!

romdowa · 24/11/2021 09:07

Best thing for fleas are the long acting tablets that you get from the vets. Bravecto is the best brand. Treatments bought over the counter are rubbish.

nannybeach · 24/11/2021 09:12

PermanentlyDizzy had nailed it Frontline stopped being effective years ago.Advocate,on a script from the vet. We ended up having to fumigate the house, with a special spray leave the house closed up for a few hours and go out.

WingingItSince1973 · 24/11/2021 09:32

Same here. 2 dogs and 4 cats. Dogs are regularly treated as we have a subscription for front line thats sent in post monthly but obviously not working! Going to change. Its annoying for this time of year!

Jayne35 · 24/11/2021 13:34

Same issue here, and we have been paying the vet for frontline monthly, they really shouldn't still be selling people products that don't work. Going to treat the house later and shower the dog with flea shampoo, also will be asking the vet for something else.

YodaiamsaidI · 24/11/2021 13:51

I swear by seresto collars and indorex spray, the collars are over £30 now but do last upto 8 months,I swap every 7 months to be sure and spray the house using 2 cans every 11 months. No fleas ever seen.

Anordinarymum · 25/11/2021 14:08

Well I called my vet after reading the responses here. I am awaiting a call-back from the vet himself. I trust him implicitly. I was kind of dreading a visit to the pet shop as they are only there to sell you something and With four pets to treat it will not be cheap.
