I can't walk my dog

And the guilt is awful :(
I have Covid ..got sick Saturday and tested positive Monday (not a surprise as I work in Special Ed and two colleages and two kids in my class were already ill)

She's still being walked but only getting a quick toilet walk in the morning, and then my DD2 who thank god, lives near me and is on maternity leave, is taking her out in the afternoon as doggo won't toilet in the garden.

But my dog is so attached to me, she is reluctant to go out, keeps nudging her harness and coming to me..she is acting depressed. I feel so GUILTY...and I'm not allowed out til 19th (not that I could manage now anyway...I'm quite poorly)

I hate this!!!! We love our long off lead walks on my non working days and her dog walker walks other days (dog walker can't take her as she also works with disabled adults)

No point to my post..but whaaa I hate not being out with my hairy girl!

Poor you! I hope you feel better soon.

We're the reverse at the moment - AwkwardPup is not allowed on any walks (onlead toilet trips to the garden only) at the moment, due to a relapse of his immune mediated polyarthitis.
The medication has started to make him feel much better, so I have a bored 1 year old cocker spaniel who doesn't understand why he isn't allowed out.
We're getting through a lot of chews!

But couldn’t the dog Walker collect her from the garden?

icedcoffees · 11/11/2021 08:21

The dog walker should still be able to take her - I'm a dog walker and walk from positive households, I just collect the dog from the garden instead.

However if she's uncomfortable I would ask around and see if another walker in the area can step in and help you, or see if your area has any volunteers who would help out for a bit.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/11/2021 08:25

I feel for you. You don't realise how much you miss your walks until you can't do them. My dog had an op on Monday and isn't allowed walks. I could walk alone but its not the same without the hairy one. I hope you feel better soon.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 11/11/2021 08:27

Do brain games with her instead. Order a puzzle toy from Amazon. If you feel better, use this as an opportunity to teach her scent work. There’s a lot of ways you can bond with your dog and tire her out without leaving your house.

StillMedusa · 11/11/2021 12:18

The dog walker won't take her because although the risk is small, if it passed from me to her via the harness or whatever , she works with very vulnerable adults...so I completely understand.
I'd ask around but my dog is quite nervous and needs careful introductions to be happy so I can't just call up anyone and ask... (oh for an easy dog :D)

I know it's not forever.. I'm just praying that I'm allowed out before any of my family catch it,.. if my son gets it we are stuffed.

Unfortunately she's not a toy or puzzle orientated dog (we have loads).. she lives for tramping through the woods with me, or offlead runs in the fields... seems so unfair that I can't just take her somewhere isolated from humans and get on with it (but I won't ..sticking to the rules ..plus I might pass out!)

Are there any doggy day care places she could go to? Mine gets worn out when he goes.

SirSniffsAlot · 11/11/2021 20:39

I think dog walkers are encouraged not to walk dogs from positive households with other dogs - so the walker may be limited by time because they need to walk other regulars. Certainly that's the case in Scotland and the RSPCA recommends the same for the UK.

No advice, OP, just sympathy. This is my primary concern about getting covid, tbh. Not 10 days indoors. 10 days indoors with the dog staring at me, hopefully Smile

StillMedusa · 11/11/2021 20:51

Arghh..and now My DD2's darling baby has tested positive today :( So I now have no one at all and I feel awful as he must have caught it from me on Sunday when I was still testing negative and they dropped by for a Granny cuddle.

I've managed to find a friend who my dog knows well enough to do tomorrow, but after that..no idea!

We all tested positive one after another in our house and by far the most stressful thing was working out how to walk the dog! Thankfully we have three amazing dog walkers and they were all really accommodating and took her either for doggy day care or for a big long walk by just collecting her from the garden. We haven’t been for a dog walk for a family for a month as at least one of us has been isolating at any given point 🙄🙄 it’s such a pain!
