Mite shampoo

My dog gets his paws washed after muddy walks or when he goes into woods (limited at the moment due to SCI). I need to buy some new shampoo and it would make sense to get some that kills harvest mites. Any recommendations? I don't want to spend a fortune but no point getting something that doesn't work.

If my dogs did have mites I would treat with flea treatment from the vet.

I dont think shampoo is prescribed for harvest mites although there do seem to be some alternative shampoos that say they help but I have no experience of them.

He has regular flea treatment and absolutely no sign of any. I'm just trying to make sure he doesn't pick any up with the risk of SCI.

Luckily the risk of SCI is still rare.

It does seem a weird illness. Ancedotally a friend has multi dogs of various ages and walks them in the same place. One of them got SCI and the others didnt. The old ones and the puppy did not get it but the 7 year old did - very strange.

It is very very weird.

There is no shampoo proven or licensed to kill harvest mites.

Thanks Lonecat.

Your regular flea/tick treatment should see off harvest mites. My old dog got SCI some years ago (he recovered) and no link with harvest mites was suggested.

Glad your boy recovered OK. A local wood had a case where it was linked (no idea if correctly!) to harvest mites.
