Wasn't herself last night..just very quiet and curled up.. no enthusiatsic greeting when DS2 got home from work.
This morning, ate her breakfast as usual.. then threw up..breakfast and previous night's dinner (huge quantities of vomit) obviously undigested.

Left her hungry. Gave her dinner tonight.. ok for half an hour, then had a treat and threw up everything again. She did poo this morning.. all normal, and she's subdued but isn't showing any signs of distress..happy to be touched, isn't restless or anything .(I'm very aware of the danger of bloat but as she IS able to vomit, it seems very unlikely)
Can't see the vet til tomorrow late afternoon..their earliest appointment.

She's looking at me wondering when her next meal is!
She's not a scavenger and doesn't eat inedible objects so I think a blockage is unlikely but obviously can't rule it out. Do dogs get simple stomach bugs?!

I thought I might offer her just a little chicken tomorrow and see if she keeps that down? Or should I just starve her til she's seen the vet?

She's my first dog and I hate seeing her be sick!

They most definitely can get simple stomach bugs. It would be impossible to tell you what’s going on but so long as your dog is ok in herself (it’s a good sign she’s looking for her next meal) then you should be fine to wait till the appointment tomorrow afternoon. You could call and ask in the morning if it best to starve her till her appointment or try some chicken. If you feel she is getting worse then definitely call and speak to your out of hours vet. If you’re truly worried now then I’m sure they could reassure you and let you know what signs to look out for between now and your appointment. All the best. I hope she’s feeling much better soon.

Hope your dog is feeling better @StillMedusa? How did it go with the vet?

We had this last week with our DDog; on vet advice we give small amounts of chicken and rice and monitor how he tolerates it.

If she is able to keep liquid down(little bit at a time),she will be fine til tomorrow vet visit.hope she will be soon better.

One expensive trip to the vets later (an injection to stop her puking and help settle her painful tum) and I think she's on the mend. She was very tender and did not want the vet to touch her tummy and they were concerned she might have a blockage but she finally pooed tonight..yay!

I'm keeping her on chicken and rice for a few days , much to her disgust but she's perkier, and hasn't thrown up today so I guess it was a bug.

I swear I was never this neurotic when my kids were ill Grin

I spoke too soon... she stopped vomiting until the injection wore off :(
Saw the head vet today who gave her a thorough poking , much to her horror. He couldn't feel a blockage, so we are hoping it's a bug, but she has antibiotics, omeprazole, prescription food ( and very little of that!)
She hasn't pooed today but then she threw up all her food so guess there isn't much to poo!

Any tips for getting a clever dog to take pills? She's only to have the prescription food for a few days (if she keeps it down) and she is an expert at spitting them out even if wrapped in cheese or ham!!!!

Does she like peanut butter for dogs?my dog is crazy for it.you could give her first a little to lick of your finger, then powder the pill and mix it in with peanut butter.she cant really spit out the peannut butter.good luck.

Sorry to hear she’s not fixed. Re the pills. I am afraid to say in this house we have to open her jaw , put pill as far back as possible, and hold her jaw closed.
I tried pretty much everything else including pill pockets, but she’s a smart cookie.
My other dog, a male, just takes anything I give him as if it were a treat. Which is no help to you, but illustrates that she is the smart one…
