Long lead

Hi, I would like to start using a long lead, to work on recall with my 17 week puppy, when we are out.

Is there a particular one that is recommended.

Thank you

We are a big fan of biothane leads here, can be a bit slippy when wet but far nicer to keep clean.

For a young pup would recommend trying to find one with a slightly thinner width, around 1cm. Otherwise it might be a bit heavy.

Length is also something to consider, we have a 5m and a 10m. The 5m we use mroe often as the other one I just find really frustrating. But obviously it gives less freedom.

If you're leaving it trailing on the ground you may want to get one with the option of a removable handle so it can't snag on anything.

I used to like biothane too. But I found it too much fuss to clean it afterwards and also found it too slippery. I do love biothane for dog collars though - really easy to clean, great for swimming, etc. :D

My favourite long line now is a 2cm x 1.2m nylon one. I like it because I can put a few knots along it, which makes it easier to step on if I need to. I can also toss it in a laundry bag and wash it in the washing machine easily.

If your pup is a toy breed, I would go for a 1cm width, as the PP said. Otherwise, if your pup is a medium to large breed, then I'd go for a 2cm width.

I love biothane too. I had a fabric type one. And it got disgusting.
