Help with my mini schnauzer, wasting away, undiagnosed illness

My Schnauzer has been poorly with diarrhoea and occasional vomiting since March. She has lost catastrophic amounts of weight now, rapudly so in the last few weeks. She is on high dose Steroids and a chemo drug, protexin too. She is dying. I am absolutely desperate. She's 10, rescued from a puppy farm 4 years ago having been a bredding bitch, she was a terrible mess, I've nursed her to health and now this. Vets have tried everything, done every test including biopsies. She's seen European level internal medicine specialists, nothing else can be done as no cause is found. We're treating her for chronic ibd, but she has no diagnosis. She is not absorbing any nutrition from her food. I am in despair. Any advice? She's on Arden Grange white fish and potato, extra boiled fish on top, all good and the diarrhoea has subsided but she is still dropping, her weight chart looks like a cliff. Help.

I’m so sorry about this op. Try and take comfort in knowing that she had a difficult start in life so the love and happiness of being in your home was even more special to her than it would have been to another dog. She will be at peace now and not in pain.

Oh bless her. Knowing you were there with her, will be a great comfort to you both. Sometimes life has an agenda which we dont want, but have to accept.
I ,too, had my lovely boy, puts, at 14 years old. I sat up all night, calming him, aand the vet came next day. He was buried in the garden. I talk to him, light candles for him and have many photos and will always think of him.

My rescue girl had a rough start in life, I got her aged 6 & had nearly 4 yrs of her gentle love before insulinoma took her within a month. (Similar symptoms, wasting away but due to tumour producing too much insulin so her blood sugar was dangerously low). She scraped by her 10th birthday & a week later it was time for goodbyes. It was start of Nov last year, and it was so hard. I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to your beloved pup, their love leaves a gaping hole in our lives, but oh what a shining bright love to have known.

I'm so sorry to hear that. You obviously cherished her and gave her a loving home for many years

FeelinSpendy · 19/11/2021 18:40

I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s devastating that the first part of her life was so sad but she was so lucky to have you to look after her in her later life. You did everything that you could have done and I’m sure she knew she was loved.

So sorry for your loss op.. Your ddog was very lucky to be so loved..
And I am sure you feel very lucky too.
