Arthritis in my old boy

My poor old man suffers with arthritis. He is taking a quarter of Pardale twice a day, prescription from the vets, plus YuMove and turmeric from Dorwest daily. Is there anything else I can give him? He's doing ok, actually better now he is taking turmeric. A friend has suggested cod liver oil. Would that help too? He's had a bit of a bad week and I've just accidently hurt him moving his leg. The vets haven't suggested anything other than pain relief, I think because of his age.

My dog is on CBD oil prescribed by my vet, I think it has really helped her and it has helped her anxiety as well.

My dog is 13 by the way.

Would a warm bath help and heated pad to sleep on. Warmth helps arthritis.

caninearthritis.co.uk/

That’s the best place for advice on arthritis.

Our dog had Cartrophen injections from the vet which really seemed to improve her quality of life over those last few years x

My old girl had gw joint aid in her dinner. I was sceptical of it and didn’t expect much, but she went from struggling to stand up to bounding around like an elderly puppy again! Obviously didn’t cure it, but gave us a few extra years together.

Mine has the librela injection monthly. Its fantastic along with gabapentin and occasionally pardale if he's quite sore after a walk.
There's so many different meds out there, I'd phone the Vet and get a meds review for him.

We lost our lovely old Border terrier a few weeks ago - he had terrible arthritis, but we kept him comfortable for at least an extra year with a combination of Galliprant/Yumove and later paracetemol, hydrotherapy, and a therapeutic massage once a month. He absolutely loved the swimming because there was no stress on his bad leg, and it strengthened the rest of his muscles/core. And it was fun for him (and for me, watching him).

Friends with creaky dogs swear by Librela (expensive but effective). There's lots on the Canine Arthritis website - rugs so there's no slipping, no stairs or jumping, etc, etc.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will phone the vets for a review tomorrow. They've never offered anything, just Pardale, and when that wasn't available they didn't offer any alternative - just said to give him human paracetamol (which I didn't do, hence looking into YuMove and turmeric). Maybe it's because he's old? When I've asked about his stiff legs they just say "Oh that's his arthritis". I'll be armed with some suggestions tomorrow!

My old Labrador had tramadol, paracetamol and Rheumocam over his last few years. Not all at once. Rheumacam (and any -cam luquid) was as good as anything. I don't see why you wonder why pain relief is being offered.
