Are car crates worth it?

Hi all. Looking for some advice on crates for the car and whether they're worth it. I am changing car this week, going from a small hatchback to one with a much larger boot.

I've been considering one of those slanted crates you see in the back of police cars for dogs as in theory they will keep her safe in the event someone runs into the back of us. Also, I'm hoping a crate will limit the mud/dog hair this time round too!! But they're expensive and seem to need to be custom made to the car make.

Does anyone have one, and are they worth it? Thanks!!

I have a double one from a company in Scotland. I think they are worth it. They hold their value very well so if you change your car you can get around £400 for your old one.
They do contain the muck very well.
I do worry about the safety of the dogs in a rear end shunt but not in these crates. I am overly sensitive about vehicle safety after my husband was killed in a car crash.

You def need to check any crate has been crash tested... Until recently didn't even know that was a thing!!
Our ddogs have a harness and seat belt clip...

This article and accompanying videos are quite illuminating

I am pretty sure that article only considered American crates.

TransK9 are UK crates. They are independently crash tested readily available in the UK .

I would not use anything other than these.

They have saved my dogs on several occasions one in which we rolled in a land rover. I had broken ribs and collar bones the dogs all of them where fine and even though the car roof and sides was bashed in the crates were totally intact.

Another occasion we were rear shunted on the motorway at the end of a big queue probably driven into at 70mph we were pushed in to the car in front and them the car in front of them with the impact . The van was written off but again the crates were totally untouched and the dogs were fine.

Iwant2move I am so sorry for your traumatic loss.

I am overly sensitive to dogs in car after a colleague was killed by her unrestrained GSD catapulting through the car and hitting her in the driving seat after a rear end crash. The dog was in a crate but not a crash tested crate.

@Iwant2move I'm so sorry. Thank you for your advice, I have found one now that I think may be from the same company you mention.

Thank you to everyone else as well. Think I'm going to suck it up and shell out for a decent one. Not ideal timing before Christmas but hey ho!
