Occuping dog when working from home

Long time work from home (pre-pandemic) and recently adopted a lovely staffy, who's settling well.

I pop downstairs every 1.5/2 hours and either take him into the garden, or for a half-hour walk, at alternative times, which I'll build into one long walk once he's more settled. The rest of the time, the dog goes to his bed in the kitchen and seems to nap/peacefully wait (I have a camera). He's a chewer and will sit and chew on any ball/toy you give him to fetch, so can't interactive play with him, and no interest in Kong wobblers/treat dispensers.

Does this sound like your normal routine with a dog if working from home? I'm worried he's bored, but he isn't pacing or making a sound. Or do you have your dog in the office with you all the time? But I'm keen to avoid separation anxiety if I ever need to pop out as staffies can be a bit clingy.

Also, he never chews toys when you're not around, but seems to become obsessed with them only when you're with him. Odd!

Mine takes the opportunity to steal my bed and just curls up and sleeps

It sounds fine. Dogs need a lot of rest and sleep and it's better to encourage calm that have him over stimulated.

We both work from home and ours mostly sit in the room with us or dotted around the house. They'll come and get us if they want a wee or a treat and the puppy will come for a snuggle.

Some recommend that they don't have access to you all the time because of separation anxiety. So they're in the house with you but behind a gate or something. We haven't done this but maybe should have.

Mine comes to the office with me & he basically just snoozes all day. Which shows me he's calm & relaxed to be there. I take him out for wees & take him for a walk in my lunch hour, & if I'm having a quiet day will have a sneaky play with him when the boss isn't around Grin. My dog is a big sleeper anyway & even at home that's his favourite passtime

Thanks all, that's great to know. Don't want to under or overstimulate, but whatever we're doing seems to be working all right at the moment. First dog!

Sounds like he's getting on really well

I have a staffy x and she sleeps. And sleeps. And sleeps. I am part time so only have a 15 minute break, we both have a wee and a snack.
She has a bed in my office and one in the lounge but often chooses the lounge.
She gets lots of play when the kids and DP get home and then a good walk on an evening with me.
She certainly has the cling on staffy genetics. She has to be touching someone most of the time when we are all together but we are teaching her to settle on her bed more. We adopted her 7 months ago.

My WCS has just gone back to the bedroom for a rest while I am eating and working in the kitchen.

Most of the time he snoozes on the sofa next to me apart from a few times when he can sense I might be nearing a break time and thus his play time.

Mine has free access to my all the time but if your setup is working for you and your dog then don't change it.

Yes, ddog mostly just sleeps, if I come down for a coffee she might follow me to the kitchen and I might open the back door (she rarely bothers to go out for a wee). If I feel like I've been working longer than usual I might give her a kong or something (which she licks/chews and then goes back to sleep).

She probably has anywhere between 2-3 hours exercise a day though (over 2 walks) so isn't too much trouble inbetween times.
