Supplement for older dog

I have a 9 yr old mini schnauzer who is really slowing down of late. She has put in a little bit of weight (she's pretty small so gains weight quickly).

We've reduced her food intake and are making her walk for a little longer than usual (she's quite lazy and often turns round to come home half way thru a walk!)

Can anybody recommend a supplement for an older dog to help give them a bit of ooomph?

She has no health conditions.

Thank you

YuMove is really good for joints Smile

RandomMess · 10/10/2021 20:04

Yep YuMove- check out their web page

Jointsure has the same ingredients as YuMove but works out almost half the price if you buy 2 get one free on Amazon.

My vet prescribed vivitonin for my dog - supposed to improve 'dullness lethargy an demeanour'. It has worked but its prescription only and extortionately expensive (for a large dog).

Have a look at AOK-9 online, fantastic quality supplements which really work.

I've got an 8.5 year old working cocker and he's really slowed down in the last 12 months. He's as batty as ever on a walk, but seems to pay the price for it early evening.

He's on YuMove, and it's helped but I think he needs a little more so following with interest.

I subscribed to YuMove - I will report back.... thanks for all the suggestions

I've gone to Riaflex instead of Yumove as the levels are vastly superior.

If she’s stopping and turning around on walks I would get her vet checked. Dogs are incredibly stoic and it’s not always easy to tell when they’re in pain. A very large percentage of dogs have arthritis by the age of 8, so I would want that checked and appropriate pain relief/physio etc if it was found. A lot of people thing that dogs just slow down as they get older, but there is nearly always an underlying reason and a vet check is always advisable.

We use Riaflex, Green Lipped Mussel, turmeric for dogs and high strength omega oil for our old boy. Gradually introduced each one and assessed it’s effectiveness before deciding which ones to keep him on. (He was on Yumove before and we noticed a big improvement with the above protocol.)

Weight control is also really important. What’s she like around water? Would hydrotherapy suit her to burn few calories and strengthen her muscles?

We use Riaflex Green Lipped Mussel and Canine Joint Plus HA for our 13 year old as he was getting stiffer. It seemed to help, and then ran out, and he definitely seemed stiffer and slower when he wasn’t having it. He’s been back on them for a week and I think he’s less creaky again.

The vet has checked him out recently and said no sign of pain in his joints, which was nice to hear.

Yumove senior plus high concentration turmeric

TBF - my experience is with my arthritic cat and she has prescription strength stuff once a day and their non-prescription once a day too. Worked really well in her after a couple of weeks.
