Howling before/after food - any advice?

I have a rescue golden retriever who is 9 months old. She was half the size of her sibling when brought to the rescue. She is still tiny for a retriever - like she has been tumbled dried for too long!

We got her at 5 months. At around 7 months she started howling before and after food. So she will take a chew away and howl at it, or go away and howl in anticipation of her dinner.

She howled at a 1cm-cube biscuit yesterday.

It's cute but annoying - no doubt especially so for the neighbours.

Has anyone seen this before?

Is it excited barking because Food! Or is it more of an upset worried noise?

Our Goldie barks loudly to let us know it's dinner time, and to hurry up with her dinner.

Could she have a sore mouth?

Could she be teething?

Dog of small statue for breed with 'odd' behaviour around meals has she had blood S done to rule out a portosustemic shunt?

Not teething and I don't think the food is hurting her. It's like she's telling everyone she's getting her dinner.

Proper howling. But she doesn't seem worried.

This is interesting - thank you. I've never had to take her to a vet yet so she's not seen one since being signed off by the rescue vet at 5 months.
