Where to advertise puppies if not Pets4Homes, please?

I would be very grateful for advice.

I've have been looking at previous The Doghouse posts and many advise avoiding Pets4Homes.

Where would be the best place to advertise our lovely whippet x spaniel puppies, please?

Our vets are still working from the car park only, so no noticeboard, and Facebook has stopped pet adverts. Rather new to this.

The puppies are very cute, but we cannot keep them all!

Thanks in advance.

I think you could advertise them where you like as long as you have a rigorous interview process. You can never really know 100% if a home is going to work out but a good contract that stipulates that the pup must come back to you if things don't work out would show people how serious you are too. There would be other standard things that should go in this contract that I'm sure you could Google.

Deadringer · 04/10/2021 19:23

Try to rehome them to people you know, if thats not possible contact a shelter. It's very difficult to vet strangers, if you give then away or sell for a low price people will sell them on to make a profit.

I have a dog which i found on gumtree. In what world do you lot live where all dogs sourced from gumtree or pets ar home have bad outcomes. It is mental that you can say this. I know so many people with well cared for pets that were found from these websites. My bitch has is fed roasted whole chicken (yes I remove the bones before some idiot jumps on me) sirloin steak and this is every week. I picked her up for £250 off gumtree. She lives better than a lot of people. So I repeat, you lot are mad.... OP you can definitely find good homes on aforementioned websites. You will meet the people and if you don't get a good vibe u simply do not sell. Its not difficult. You lot. Wowwwww.

Ewwww

Hmm
Floralnomad · 04/10/2021 19:29

It may be worth asking the vet if they know of anyone looking for a puppy .

RIPWalter · 04/10/2021 19:35

We bought our dog from pets4homes, we wanted quite a uncommon cross, and tracked down a young man breeding from his and his dad's working dogs (the only litter of that cross advertised at the time). He was amazing with the dogs, and thought it was brilliant that one of his puppies was going to get to live in Snowdonia. My dog will be 5 next month. There are plenty of good breeders and owners using this website at well as unscrupulous ones.

tabulahrasa · 04/10/2021 20:11

“the bitch was rehomed to us with the surprise bonus of being in whelp.”

Then why isn’t the rescue rehoming the puppies?

RevolvingPivot · 04/10/2021 20:17

What did the rescue say about the puppies when they allowed you to adopt her?

toocold54 · 04/10/2021 20:18

What is wrong with pets4homes (I’m not looking to buy just genuinely interested)?

Definitely stay away from gumtree!!

I would probably go through a local rescue centre as they’ll take all the stress out of it and you know the homes will have been thoroughly checked first.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/10/2021 20:21

No reputable rescue would rehome a pregnant bitch.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/10/2021 20:22

If you want to sign them over to a Spaniel rescue I can put you in touch.

icedcoffees · 04/10/2021 20:24

If the dog was rehomed to you pregnant, the rescue will help you with rehoming the puppies.

Mammaaof · 04/10/2021 20:25

My mum sold her unexpected puppies on pets4homes. They all went to amazing homes in England ( we are in Wales) and I kept one. We get regular updates and photos! They went to lovely homes we are so pleased we get updates too! X

ChurchlightJane · 04/10/2021 20:27

Nobody breeds puppies just to cover their costs. They do it to make money from their pets.

tabulahrasa · 04/10/2021 20:29

@JayAlfredPrufrock

No reputable rescue would rehome a pregnant bitch.
It happens occasionally if they only have the bitch a few weeks and think she’s been spayed, there’s no real way of knowing they’re not until they go into season or you realise they’re pregnant.

But I’d have expected them to then step in at that point...

ChurchlightJane · 04/10/2021 20:29

And in this case the seller or rehiring charity have behaved badly. Rescue dogs are normally spayed so it's not great.

Wolfiefan · 04/10/2021 20:33

Via rescue.
Rehomed to you? Through a rescue? Do you have a contract?

over2021 · 04/10/2021 20:34

Bloody hell, I wouldn't cross the prey drive of a whippet with the relentless energy of a spaniel Confused

FreshFreesias · 04/10/2021 20:38

Quite a nice windfall for you, OP.
No idea why you are not seeking the advice of the rescue where you sourced your pregnant dog.
TBH, I don’t believe this story and find it disgusting that people seek to breed from their pets for profit, especially when rescues here and abroad are stuffed with unwanted pets.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 04/10/2021 20:47

Our KC registered breeder had a litter of 8 puppies and doesn’t do lists as she doesn’t want to pre promise puppies. We had one but I know she put the last 2 of the litter on pets 4 homes. It actually meant they are homed locally and she was able to meet them a couple of times before puppies went to their new families. One of them actually lives 5 minutes from us and local people regularly say “hi Teddy” to my puppy thinking he’s theirs as they look identical. There are awful breeders on there but also lovely families looking for a puppy.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/10/2021 20:50

So… the rescue have given you a pregnant bitch, and you get to profit from the puppies?

Doesn’t sound right to me.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 04/10/2021 20:50

@FreshFreesias sadly the rescues regularly refuse good families (tried for a long time before giving up and getting a puppy). We had cats and dc even though dc were 8 and above, dh home all the time, good sized garden etc. Puppy is now over a year and a fab part of our family.

gogohm · 04/10/2021 20:55

I bought my boy via pets 4 homes. There's lots of family bred dogs legitimately sold. You need to ensure you do checks on potential buyers and chip the puppies

Gubanc · 04/10/2021 21:24

Of course it wasn't 'rehomed' via a rescue, there's a rehome section on pets4homes where people sell their dogs cheaper.

I use pets4homes to advertise my kittens, everybody has to start somewhere (not too sure about the new website) and I know a lot of reputable breeders use this site.
