Dog walking boots

Hi all!
Now we're approaching winter I desperately need new waterproof, comfy boots. What do people recommend?
I bought some Joules wellies, think I got them too big though as I feel I'm dragging my feet around in them. Not sure if I want decent wellies or walking boots, but want comfortable and easy to clean!
Am also chunky of calf, so anything knee high needs to be wide fitting Blush
Hit me with your recommendations please!

Dubarrys are excellent. Not cheap (£300ish I think), but I've had mine for 8 years and I practically live in them because we've got dogs and horses. I've got them caked in mud, soaking wet from striding into the sea, etc and still going strong. The soles are quite worn down, but that's it.

I have MuckBoots which are fab for field walking. They were my Best Buy of 2021! Warm, comfortable and supportive.
I also have some Salomon walking boots for woods/trails etc.

I have Woof wear short yard boots for before the mud gets too deep and Dublin river boots / aigle wellingtons for when it does . I like flexibility at the ankles in boots and these all fit the bill .

Hairyfairy01 · 28/09/2021 13:46

Dublin boots. Cost me about £100 but worth every penny. I can walk in the sea in them and through muddy fields.

WoodchipNightmares · 28/09/2021 14:23

I switch between walking boots (dry but cold days) and wellies with thick socks (wet days)

Just about to purchase some bareback boots on payday, woooo!!

alpinia · 28/09/2021 16:16

I have ancient Dubarry boots and similarly ancient Le Chameau neoprene lined wellies. For winter dog walking the Le Chameau win hands down. So comfy, warm and waterproof. Worth every penny after years of sweaty, uncomfy brand wellies that split or crack after a few months.

Thanks all, lots to be looking at!

I recently bought these boots for walking the dog in wet/cold weather. I also am chunky of calf, and these fit me no problem, I didn't even need to use the adjustable strap on the side.

Bareback Quebec Boots

changedusername2021 · 29/09/2021 16:20

Ariat grassmere had them years and still going strong. Warm, dry and comfy.

Frymetothemoon · 29/09/2021 16:22

I bought some last year from Celtic and co which I love. They were recommended on here

shaniashania · 30/09/2021 11:53

Thank you all, I'm liking the look of the Bareback Quebecs.
Just a question though, I think in my mind I thought wellie style would be more practical. Easy to hose off and clean. How easy to those of you with leather boots find it is to clean them?

Thanks again!

I've had far fewer knee, hip and back problems since buying proper Scarpa walking boots.

icedcoffees · 30/09/2021 19:19

I got a pair of cheap unbranded wellies off eBay for £15.

They're super comfy and haven't failed me and I wear them daily for work - for about 6-7 hours a day.

Orgasmagorical · 30/09/2021 20:39

For those who have the Bareback Quebec boots, do they hold themselves up when you put your feet in or do you have to pull them on with your hands?

My Dublin River boots lasted for three years constant use before the lining went - very little leather maintenance. I didn't tend to wash the mud ofd though I'm sure I should have. Now I wax my current boots every few months. I hope them down if I'm hosing the dogs, but otherwise don't bother.
livingonpurpose · 05/10/2021 10:12

They do hold themselves upright when you put your foot into them, but you'll need to pull them on with one hand (I can do it holding my puppy in the other arm just about without falling over!).

I have the Quebecs and I've not got them too muddy yet, so I've just been letting them dry (wiping off any excess on grass before coming home). I did buy some dubbin to keep them waterproof, which I need to remember to apply soon. I think though that they'd be find to treat just like wellies and hose off to clean if you needed to.

Are 'muck boots' a style of boot or a brand? Where can I find them? I've seen them recommended on here a lot.
NorthernLion · 05/10/2021 14:07

You lot are a bad influence - my Quebec boots arrived this morning. Do they stretch much? I dither every time with boot buying, whether to go a bit bigger to allow for winter socks/sheepskin soles, or to allow for stretching. And can you really wear them for squelching through muddy puddles?

Re Muck Boots, they're a brand name but much copied: basically a welly with neoprene sides and a decent walking sole. I got my DH a pair last year and borrow them frequently

Muck Boots for dog walking

shaniashania · 05/10/2021 14:13

@NorthernLion ooh I'm jealous now!

Thanks for all the other replies - I think I'll put the Quebec boots on my Christmas list! It sounds like they're easy enough to look after, which was my big worry.
