6 month old puppy suddenly afraid at night

I am currently very sleep deprived as my 6 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy has decided the past 2 nights that he doesnt want to be left alone at night! Normally he settles in the kitchen and we dont hear a peep from him all night. However, the past 2 nights he has been barking and pawing at the door. The first night I was up and down stairs trying to settle him, and I ended up sleeping on the living room sofa, while he slept in the kitchen!
Last night he started again, so I sat quietly downstairs, then when he fell asleep I went to bed and left him, I was then woken an hour later with crazy barking and he’d pooed all over the kitchen floor. I tried to settle him and went upstairs, then when he barked I came down and acted boring, then left him, did that a couple of times and he eventually settled down. Came down this morning and he’d been sick!
I don’t want him stressed and upset, but I cant sleep on the sofa. My DH has been away the past week, so not sure if that has anything to do with it, although he was fine the first few days.
I dont care about him sleeping in my bedroom, but he seems afraid to go up stairs, and when I carried him up today, he seemed a bit stressed as its all new to him. Feeling like a rubbish dog parent at the moment.
Just to also mention that he is left for a couple of hours each day. I leave him with a stuffed kong and he’s fine. Any advice would be great.

That's a tough one as pooing and being sick sounds like he is very stressed.

I dont care about him sleeping in my bedroom, but he seems afraid to go up stairs, and when I carried him up today, he seemed a bit stressed as its all new to him.

When we finally let BiteyDog sleep on our bed he was stressed a bit as he clearly knew he shouldn't have been on the bed despite us calling him up. A few treats and reassurance soon turned that around.

If you aren't bothered about him sleeping in your bedroom I would do that with just a bit of reassurance that it's ok to be in that room.

Maybe he had an upset stomach, felt unwell, hence pooing on the floor & being sick? Is he eating normally? Any signs of nausea (licking lips, eating grass etc).
Our cocker (11 months) has been unwell recently and he gets really distressed if he is trying to hold it. Sometimes he doesn't go when we take him out but if he's feeling sick & having a sudden urge to go I think he gets worried about messing indoors (even though we have always just cleaned up any accidents without any fuss).

I would suggest he has not been feeling well. If you can sleep near him for a couple of nights you may find this disappears as quickly as it started.

If it does continue then you can look at a plan B

Thanks for the replies.

I’m wondering if maybe this change in him has something to do with the worming treatment I gave him, as it all started then. He became very agitated and barking at the door to the garden as if something was there, and was very unsettled all evening, last night was not as bad, but then we had the poo and sick!
DH is back tonight, he usually stays awake and downstairs with him for longer, so that may help, if not then maybe we’ll try and get him to settle upstairs.

Is he still in his second stage of teething too? Mine had a bit of an upset tum then too.
Maybe try boiled chicken and rice for a day or so (although obviously take to vet I not drinking or eating, unwell in himself, or continuing to vomit etc)
