House already smells of dog, day 2!

We bought our baby home on Friday, and already the house smells of dog! Is there anything I can use to help it smell better? Iv washed her blanket and I’m going to wash the vet bed.

Is there any oils I can use for our diffuser?

Thank you!

Windows open daily.
Vacuum at least once a day.

We use scented wax melts everyday, though you need to make sure your pet tolerates them as some of them can cause issues.

But dogs do come with a certain level of hair, muck and smell - especially when they're puppies and still learning how to toilet and keep themselves clean.

Can’t you bath the puppy? Ours smelled very strongly of the breeders that we got him from where he’d been snuggled in with his siblings and various other older stinky farm dogs plus we got the stinky mother’s blanket - bath the puppy or brush and spritz with puppy fresh and you’ll find the smell goes. Puppies don’t really smell of anything unless they’ve been rolling in muck, they just smell of a lovely warm comforting puppy smell and shouldn’t be smelling gross. Please don’t use diffusers or scented candles, that won’t be good for any of you

I wouldn't wash things too much, dogs are comforted by familiar smells and taking these away, especially in a new unknown environment could be very upsetting for the dog.

Iv figured it out that it’s the teddy we gave the breeder back when she was 2 weeks old lol. She absolutely loves it so we will just live with the smell 😂🥰

give her a bit longer to settle and then stick it in the washing machine. There will be enough smell left for her, but you won't be able to smell it

Windows open every day even if just for a short while, and as @icedcoffees says, wax melts and vacuuming. If you have hard floors rather than carpets that helps! And pet friendly febreeze on fabrics.

wash the teddy once she is setlled in...

The joy of dog ownership!

The joys of having a puppy. We use this very sparingly www.ratwarehouse.com/product/nilodor_tap-a-drop_odour_remover and it seems to help. Fortunately, we have wooden floors and the sofa pup is allowed up on is leather do easy to wipe down and he has a coolaroo bed, again easy to clean.

PuppyMonkey · 19/09/2021 20:59

The smell will stay, you’ll just get used to it and stop noticing it.

My dig has a really disgusting teddy which I wash and he can still smell even when it smells of clean laundry to me.

I'd wash the teddy. Your puppy's nose is way more sensitive than yours

Lots of open windows, and air the bed every now then.

Re. the diffuser - I didn't know this before I got a dog, but turns out lots of essential oils are really really bad for dogs, so be careful which oils you use.

Toxic oils

Lemongrass is dog-safe, and smells really nice and fresh. Note lots of other 'fresh' smelling oils are not dog safe - anything citrus-based is a no go.
