Dead ‘earthworms’ in my dog’s poo??

Sorry this is really gut churning but need to know if I should be worried.

I was clearing the lawn today as I do daily and in amongst the leaves was a poo that was old that I’d obviously missed. It looked mushy and rained on and has been there a while (we have a really big garden and the leaves make it hard to clear up 100% all of the time) but the worrying thing was that it was mainly mass of about ten dead ‘earthworms’. I took a photo but won’t post unless absolutely necessary 🤮 .
Google suggests that they are not parasitic dog worms as they look too earthwormy. But why were they dead? Should I worry about my dog? Did they arrive in the poo after the event? Were they composting it before they died?!

Coincidentally we just got back from the vet to collect wormer tablets (about ten days overdue with dose).

Poos normally look fine . No signs of itching/ illness.

Any advice much appreciated.

We have lots of foxes here actually- maybe it wasn’t even my dog’s poo!

Are you sure they aren't dog worms?

Apologies for vile imagery but when our dog had worms, they were like white earthworms.

If you worm your dog the worms will be dead or dying on expulsion.

SlouchingTiger · 17/09/2021 18:08

They’re not white. They’re earthworm coloured. The worms were found before I gave the wormer tablet. And it’s only 5-6 weeks max since the last dose.

Pic needed!

SlouchingTiger · 17/09/2021 18:17

@TheVolturi are you absolutely sure about that?!

Bear in mind the worms you found are dead and have been lying around for a while, so might be discoloured.

Thank goodness, I've already had my dinner tonight.

As you regularly worm your dog anyway, I don't think you have anything to worry about. If he has a current infestation you will know about it when you pick up after him after giving the worming tablet! .

My dog eats earthworms 🤮🤮🤮 but I don’t see them in her poo, presumably because she digests them 🤢🤢🤢
Are you sure she’s not got worms ?

SlouchingTiger · 17/09/2021 18:22

Oh god I’m going to have to leave the thread.

Pic wouldn’t upload unfortunately (fortunately?)

Last try …

Eew. It's hard to judge without knowing the size/diameter of them. That does look more like fox poo than dog poo, though.

I think badgers are fond of earthworms. They leave little telltale holes in the lawn where I assume they are digging them up. So could it be a (very greedy) badger? But agree with pps, could be fox as well.

candycane222 · 17/09/2021 18:31

The Badgers leave the holes i mean 😄

SlouchingTiger · 17/09/2021 18:38

Thanks everyone. I don’t think we have badgers but do have moles!

Startling to think it’s not my dog’s…

I really must go now otherwise I won’t be able to stomach dinner prep 🤢

I wonder if it's vom rather than poo?

muddyford · 18/09/2021 18:01

Badgers poo in a latrine that they dig. Fox poo has a pointy end. Looks like roundworms, discoloured by exposure. My first puppy, decades ago, pooed in the night and there were live roundworms in it. He was rapidly fed his worming tablet! Just in time for supper...spaghetti, anyone?!

Sitdowncupoftea · 21/09/2021 11:25

Looks like tapeworms. Reform your dogs.
