Hello. Has our lab pup of 23 weeks got a sensitive stomach? And if so what can we do to help him?
We came downstairs this morning to find Basil our black lab puppy of 23 weeks has had an accident on his bed in his crate. There was poo on his bed and his blanket and soft toys . Poor puppy, he'd tried hard not to do it where he sleeps.
This is the 2nd time it’s happened in 2-3 weeks and we took him to the vets after the last big bout, and he was put on antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and probiotic paste. He’s been up and down with bouts of loose stools and being off his food and not himself for about a month. We often have to coax him to eat - other times he wolfs it down. He does pick up all sorts of rubbish on his walks and we try our best to stop him eating it. Otherwise he’s fine and typically a lab puppy.
We’ll put him on rice and chicken for today. We don’t give him any treats and keep him on his kibble only with no extras - Autarky with a bit of Chappie mixed in. and a raw egg sometimes.
Do we accept that he’s got a sensitive stomach and treat him accordingly? Can anyone advise us on how best to look after him. Thanks
