Best harness for a puppy

I am looking to get a harness for my 11 week old cockapoo pup, ready for when we can go out for walkies in a weeks time. I don’t want to spend a fortune at this stage, as obviously he will grow quickly, so at this point I’m after something affordable that does the job! Once he is fully grown we’ll happily invest in something a bit more expensive. Any recommendations please?

Perfect Fit harness. Lined with fleece, Y-shaped so doesn’t restrict neck or shoulder movement, front D-ring for extra security on the lead and you can replace individual pieces as they grow, which saves on cost long-term.

We bought a pets at home fur lined puppy harness. It's got the d-rings and a normal clip.

It cost £11 and our dogs tiny so it's last him 3 years!

We've got a perfect fit harness.

You also need to take into consideration what sort of walker your dog is. My dog pulled significantly in the perfect fit and we didn't feel like we've got much control of him if we use the back D-ring. He did also manage to slip out of it once, but he's just been swimming so maybe the water effected the fitting? We like the fact he can add more bits too it as he grows. We've now for a halti harness, along with the perfect fit one. We will choose which one to use depending on where we go (he only tends to pull on our regular walking tour that he knows well, other places he's fine). However our puppy is a large breed, so pulling might well be less of a consideration for a cockapoo!

None!

Please get a collar and lead, you'll reap the benefits later.

Harnesses impede shoulder and gait development. They also encourage the dog to pull.

Perfect fit.
It will fit. Perfectly - no worries.

It will have some room for growth and may work long term - or you can replace individual parts with bigger ones abs sell the small ones on

Collars aren't good for puppies who do pull. You can't safely pull a dog back in a collar like you can in a harness to encourage them to walk properly.

Thank you for the suggestions, I will take a look at those mentioned!

Regarding collar instead of harness, we have had him walking in the garden with just collar and lead, and I didn’t feel comfortable with how it pulled at his neck.

Y front harnesses don't effect their movement.

Collars, especially on smaller breeds and puppies (who we all know can lunge after any old leaf, cat, can damage their wind pipe and cause other problems.

If you teach a dog to walk to heal then a harness or collar is irrelevant

Try here

www.dragonleads.co.uk

and support a small business.

These are very adjustable as sit properly (low 'v' nit straight across, SI don't constrict or impede gait/development)

You can teach a dog to walk nicely on lead just as well in a harness as in a collar
