Just that really. We rescued her from RSPCA when she was 10, she was an old persons dog and they'd died. She was struggling in the kennels as she was used to a pampered life, eating human food and sleeping on couches or human beds only etc. She was a city dog who'd never seen the sea or lakes. She was a Collie cross (although we never settled on what she was crossed with). She was so well trained, we often got comments on it from other dog owners etc,but she came to us like it so we couldn't take any credit. We took her all round the UK in our camper and she kept up with our regular hillwalking happily til she was 14.

She added so much to our lives over the last few years, and most recently she genuinely saved me during lockdown- I was on mat leave with a 3mo (my first) when the first lockdown hit and she was my reason to get out and do a decent walk each day. My now toddler and her were best buddies, she was so tolerant and so laid back she happily let the toddler walk her round the house on lead on a regular basis. They'd sneak off and take turns sharing snacks of carrot or cheese that they'd pinched.

I don't know what the point of this post is, other than to say if you are thinking of rescuing a dog please don't rule out the golden oldies! She truly was one in a million Star

My daughter adopted a dog who was nine, she's fifteen now and absolutely beautiful. I can't even begin to imagine how painful it will be to say goodbye to her. You gave your dog a new lease of life and she knew how loved she was.

StellaOlivetti · 10/09/2021 21:46

What a lucky dog she was to have you to love her for the “second half” of her life. And I know it doesn’t feel possible now but I promise the pain gets better. It doesn’t go away exactly but it sort of becomes part of you so you can think of her with a smile instead of tears. What was her name?

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2021 21:47

What a lovely post, about a gorgeous dog. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Tiramiwho · 10/09/2021 21:48

She's absolutely beautiful. An Angel 🐾❤️
I have had experiences to make me believe that they are still around us afterwards.
That's what I believe anyway xx

CaddieDawg · 10/09/2021 22:08

@StellaOlivetti her name was Cassie, or Caddie to my toddler Smile

You are all right, no matter how long we had with her, it would never feel enough!

I'm dreading the mundane things like chopping carrots or peppers and not being able to give her a wee bit (she loved her crunchy veg!), or heading up to bed without making sure she's done her last wees first, checking the floor before I get out of bed in the morning as she had a habit of sleeping in awkward places.

She is gorgeous OP, I'm so sorry for your loss, you could have a dog 100 years and it wouldn't feel enough. Thanks❤️

I agree that golden oldies are the best!!
Terribly when they go but you’ve given her a fabulous retirement 💖💖💖💖
We are on our third golden oldie. Number 3 was adopted in lockdown, same reason as you & your dog. Number 2 is still with us.. just., adopted at 14, they warned us he probably wouldn’t last 18 months. He’s 19 in November! Blind & deaf as a bat. They never really leave you.. always In your heart. And you have given her the best years of her life 💖 sending you lots of love xoxo

Aah, lovely. It’s the little things isn’t it. Xx

CaddieDawg · 10/09/2021 22:55

Beautiful Pup!
So sorry for your loss.

We rescued our JRT at 7, she is now 14.
Likes to sleep most the day, we feel ahw has declined a lot this year, she is happy though and hopefully will be for some time still.

Inspirationpending · 10/09/2021 23:29

What a beautiful girl. This really touched me.
Sleep tight Cassie

katesbushh · 11/09/2021 00:45

What a beautiful dog. Such soulful eyes.

I am so sorry for your loss.
It is a loss and pain like no other in my personal experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
It does get better though.

She sounds like she had a wonderful life with you.
