Will my DDog change much after castration?

So my 15 month old Lab/ Golden Retriever had his neuter op earlier this week and we are now on day 5 of recovery. He’s got his follow up appointment this afternoon but I think he’s doing really well in terms of recovery.
He’s been feeling very sorry for himself with either his cone or bodysuit on, both which he hates. He’s had lots of love and cuddles all week and I fully expect the old naughty, energetic dog we know and love to be back soon.
My question though is what can I expect behaviourwise once he’s recovered? Is he likely to be calmer? Perhaps bark less? He has always been a big barker so if nothing else this would be a big plus. What did others find with their dogs? Was there much noticeable change?

Thanks for reading.

Hi! Our Ddog was 12 months (spitz lab cross) and we didn't notice any long term change in him.

Some dogs appear to change massively, others not at all.

Mine put on weight MUCH easier once he was neutered - you really do need to be on the ball with his meals, especially if he has Labrador in him.

He did calm down but I'm not sure if that was age or the surgery - he was eighteen months old at the time.

Other than gaining weight more easily and becoming obsessed with eating rather than sex, my lab didn’t change much. He was a cuddle-monster before and he’s still a cuddle-monster. Very sweet.
He was 3 when he was neutered. He went through a short period of lack of confidence/ vulnerability but bounced back quickly and is just the sociable / friends with everyone / everything except cats dog that he always was.

It made no difference whatsoever to our dog, he’s still his completely loopy self

My Goldie was much less of a Dickhead once his nuts came off.

Made me laugh Grin

Thanks all for your replies, looks like it’s a very individual thing and I’ll just have to wait and see!

My golden retriever x Flat coated retriever was neutered at about 2.5 yrs old. Behaviourally not much changed, although before neutering he would very occasionally catch the scent of a dog he liked and disappear after it. He’s 5 now and hasn’t done it since. His coat has gone more fluffy and he’s filled out slightly weight wise but we reduced his food so he’s still a normal weight. On walks he doesn’t scent mark everything anymore, or attempt to spend 20mins excitedly sniffing the same spot! In terms of behaviour with other dogs, nothing changed. He’s always been friendly but not overly interested in most other dogs and that’s how he’s stayed. Energy level wise, he’s possibly less active but that could be more of an age thing. He was never a barker so that didn’t make any difference.

Our lab didn't really change much in personality but did put on weight
