How are you all doing?

Georgiepup is turning a year this month, I can't believe it! It's been a steep learning curve for sure. He's largely doing great though and definitely part of the family. Those early days feel like a lifetime ago.

His epilepsy is more stable now and has just become another thing we do. He still goes to daycare one day a week and loves it! He plays beautifully with other dogs but equally can ignore them and I think daycare has really helped with that.

He's still a bit erm... Slow shall we say. He's never been the sharpest pup in the den but he's loveable and we wouldn't change him. We've also been lucky so far that we haven't experienced the 'teenage' years. Perhaps we still have time for that but he's been fully grown for a few months now so I didn't know.

How is everyone else getting on? Would be so lovely to hear from some old friends.

@londonpupmum he is such a sweetie, he's an alaskan malamute/czechoslovakian wolfdog Cross. So far he's been great and night and with the weeing outside. I think I was more prepared than last time so have found it easier so far. I'm sure the first few days were OK before so there will be worse to come haha.

The two of them get on well mostly but I struggle watching them play, I'm not always sure what is OK or not.

@PugInTheHouse He is very cute. How big will he grow?

PugInTheHouse · 12/04/2022 15:19

@KathieFerrars maybe 30-40kg up to 60/65cm tall so potentially pretty big, the mum is really small for her breed so not really sure.

Hello hello! So glad to hear all is going well. Challenge pup is about 20 months now and quite a few of his bad habits have gone. He still woofs at joggers sometimes and gets carried away when squirrel chasing but he's an absolute delight.

He has put a huge bomb under my life, I have to say. I've changed lots of things in the house to suit him (blinds on the windows, hard floors downstairs, new sofa which is better for doggy snuggles), as well as my car. I wouldn't say my life revolves around him but I spend hours each day walking or playing with him, and all plans have to consider what I will so with him if it's longer than a couple of hours. I thought I knew what I was getting into but I didn't! He's my darling, and I've met loads of new people through him, and I'm so glad I have him. But it's been a big adjustment!

Pic because he's gorgeous!

Doje · 12/04/2022 18:36

@Puginthehouse I can't believe you've got another puppy so soon! I'm still scarred from the experience!!

DPup is pretty awesome these days - he's about 15 months. Really is good unless there's ducks around. Loose led walking is good unless the kids are around! Only downside is he's a pretty nervy pup which can sometimes come across as a bit aggressive with other dogs. He's good with the dogs that he knows though, so I'm not too concerned.

PugInTheHouse · 12/04/2022 19:47

@familychallenge He is gorgeous, great photo!

@Doje it's weird though as I don't think I would want to get a puppy when I had an older (hopefully more chilled) dog. Pugpup is pretty lively still and likes lots of exercise and play so hopefully it'll be good for both of them.

I am really amazed at how well they are getting on, I am really waiting for something to go crazy with it all as so far he is the easiest puppy ever. Some friends popped in to meet him and couldn't believe it. He is almost 10 weeks and seems really easy to train, sleeps well, 90% of wees and 100% of poos outside and for most of them he'll sit at the back door. He seems fine in the car and I popped him in the rucksack to meet DH's work friends and he was quite happy with that too.

I do think he'll be a chewer, it's hard to tell if he's worse than normal in that respect but he's so big that anything he chews will be destroyed. Pugpups lickimat is already minus all 4 corners!

I know what you mean about changing your life for the dog. We've spent more than I care to say on training, as well as space in our small flat for his stuff, window film to stop him fixating out of windows, not doing as much as we used to do socially.

Still love him to bits ha. But yes life has changed a lot!!

LondonPupMum · 12/04/2022 22:04

He's very cute too

@LondonPupMum he's adorable! And absolutely on the costs- I'm a nerd who spreadsheets and between daycare, food, insurance, training and all the shit I buy him because I like it, he costs about the same as my power and council tax! Again wouldn't change it, he's added so much to my life overall but it has come at a cost to my freedom and my bank balance. But when we are walking on a cold sunny morning and he's just bounding around with joy, or when he's flat on his back sound asleep or cuddled up as close as he can get, it's all worth it!

HappyThursdays · 16/04/2022 12:24

How lovely to see you all on here and lovely to hear Georgiepup is doing so well on his meds and Pugmum ARE YOU INSANE 😂 puppy 2!!! They are all gorgeous

Happy is still as mad as the day we got him but my goodness do we love him so. You'll remember he was basically dp's dog but he is like my shadow now and I absolutely adore him.

He is a nutter though. This morning we went for a long run together and suddenly he dived to the side and went down an incredibly steep embankment and into the Thames (think of about a 70 degree steepness). I wasn't quick enough to blow the recall whistle. He had smelled a ball we had dropped on the way out and he launched himself down, went under the water, found the ball and he got about 80% of the way up the embankment and luckily he had his harness on and I pulled him up. That is what life is like with Happy. Every day is his best day Smile.

He has bomb proof recall but you have to have your wits about you as you need to be aware of what he might do next. He really is as mad as a box of frogs and he will still pull like a train if he spots a blade of grass where he thinks he might be let off lead.

I love him so much though and can't imagine life without him!

HappyThursdays · 16/04/2022 12:29

Also we still have to enforce downtime and naps. If you let him, he would go all day without stopping! He's like the Duracell bunny. So we still (and I imagine for quite some time!) have to factor in time where he will rest!

PugInTheHouse · 16/04/2022 16:14

@HappyThursdays he sounds so much fun, never a dull moment with happypup lol!!

I think we must be crazy but honestly he is adorable and so good. I am frustrated at not being able to take him out in the lead as he is so heavy to carry but obviously we want to socialise him as much as possible. He seems so happy around people and dogs however he cries in the car a bit.

HappyThursdays · 16/04/2022 17:49

He's really gorgeous. How long till he can do walks? At least the weather should be better for it than when Pug and Happy were small and they wouldn't wee in the rain 😂

PugInTheHouse · 17/04/2022 14:39

@HappyThursdays Jabs are 28th April so early/mid May. Can't wait. Luckily wolfpup loves the rain so it's not too bad for him, pugpup still is not keen on the wet weather Grin
