Dogs and kids football matches...

I've recently been adopted by a rescue dog and am in a quandary over how to manage dd football matches . I can't leave the dog yet but I have to be on the sidelines . Shall I pitch up and hope for the best ? Can't see any info on the club's website . Worst case I'll have to walk around locally being close by on end of phone . But I feel bad then not watching 😬

Anyone whose dc play know what's usually accepted?. Obvs would be on short lead and I'd get there early and toilet elsewhere . She doesn't bark (and if she did I'd go!)

I think it may be a very noisy, overwhelming environment for a new rescue, even if she is allowed to be there.

Can you get someone to sit with the dog for now while she settles in?

I'd have no problem taking a well behaved dog on a short lead.

She might not like it, but she might be quite happy to sit & watch!

Do you think she sees you as her 'safe place' yet? If she doesn't I'd ask someone to mind her, or just go for a walk.

You cannot watch every single time one of your kids plays a game & there's always going to be a first time you don't. Having a 'new baby' in the family is all part of learning to share & that includes parents time.

The only way to find out is try it out! (Unless there is a note on the club website: no dogs allowed. )

Only one place my son has played at has displayed a sign saying "no dogs". Everywhere else We've been able to take him.

I don't really have anyone to watch her. She's freezing on walks atm due to seeing other dogs but she's loving people she meets. Maybe I should plan to do a short walk nearby and then hang out in the car with her.

It depends on venue. If the game is in school grounds then dogs are usually not allowed, in my experience. But ask the club if they know as we normally get told whether dogs are allowed or not

Very much depends on venues, both my DS's play football and actually quite a few do allow dogs on lead but also quite a few don't. For instance if it's 3/4g pitches in a fenced off area no dogs allowed but you can stand outside the cage and still watch.

I can't take my dog anyway as he ha a thing for running kids and barks his head off, so he is happier left at home
