Puppy hair growing white - health problem??

Hi everyone,
I am picking up a puppy cavapoo next week and noticed that some of it's hair looks like it is growing through white. Given it is a tri-coloured cavapoo, this doesn't seem right. It looks like hair that was black/tan is now coming through white. I'm worried it might be an indication of a health problem or I have read it could be an indication of stress. The puppy currently lives in a busy household with another dog and 6 month old baby, and they are selling it as they are struggling to find time for it. I will ask the owner about this but thought I could do with some advice first.
Many thanks

FYI Lucy’s Law only applies to licenced sellers.

Owners of single puppies they can no longer care for are still allowed to resell regardless if they are the breeder or not. Selling a single dog that you legally own as a one off doesn’t require a licence, so no Lucy’s Law.

Enjoy your new puppy we bought one from an owner at six months he was neglected. He was 17 last month.

Thank you so much. I'm very wary and exploring with caution so all this advice is very helpful. If I knew how to add more pictures I would share more - for some reason I can't see a button with an option..

In terms of some of the questions - I have x4 DNA certificates for the stud (male cavalier king charles spaniel) which all came back clear. I am asking for health certificates available for the mum (F1 cavapoo) and for the puppy.

I know it sounds silly and I can never truly know for sure, but having investigated their genuine and private personal instagram account (with their consent) I can see all the videos/pictures of the family life and how the puppy has been 'part of the family'. Their posts show a huge amount of love and affection for the mother dog and the puppy too - talking about how strong the bond is between them all and especially between the puppy and the baby! I know I can't rely on that but this part of the story seems genuine. But I can't rule out that there could have been a health issue as someone mentioned.

Ultimately I want what is best for the puppy but am very aware that issues can be hidden. I really hope it is all innocent/down to their naivity rather something more sinister.

Really appreciate the specific tips @Hekatestorch - if I ever work out how to add pictures and I do go ahead to pick up & rehome this pup I'll have to update you with a cleaned up, groomed version of him looking happy and dapper Smile.

Also reassuring to hear @justasking111

Ultimately I will visit the dog in person on Thursday and make a decision.

I'm sure it will be distressing for the puppy leaving the house and its mother given it is a bit older too (16 weeks) and doing everything I can prepare to give it the best life ever (assuming I don't discover some health problem). If anyone has found particular tips or tricks work for settling them in I'm all ears.

I will also update on the colours as this seemed to gain interest!

No one visits a puppy and doesn’t come back with the puppy OP 🤣

I would say though, I missed the bit stating his age.

I know you’ll almost certainly adopt him but in addition to the dirty, matted coat which is a major red flag for me, I’d also be aware that at 16 weeks the socialisation window has ended, if he hasn’t been out and about being exposed to things (and it sounds like he hasn’t if the owner can’t cope/doesn’t have time) you might be taking on a much more challenging dog than you initially thought.

All in all, including the risk that it’s a scam, I’d give this one a miss tbh but it sounds like your mind is already made up.

I walked away from some puppies because it was obvious they were breeding in large quantities for the money and the puppies just didn't seem healthy. It's no guarantee obviously as I look at BiteyDog who has been a walking vet bill.

An older puppy who clearly hasn't had the best start in life may be more challenging than some but as long as you are prepared for that then I see it as no different to getting a rescue that equally might have the same challenges.

Well we know it's been in a family setting which is a huge plus. I see so many charity rescue dogs that say. No other dogs, no cats, no children even some that say dog must be kennelled it's heartbreaking

Hi everyone, a quick update as promised. I decided in the end to not visit the puppy. I really appreciated everyone's input - it wasn't an easy situation, in the end there were too many red flags. Thank you so much guys. I have since gone through a reputable breeder to find a different puppy with all the right checks. Smile
