4 hour drive to bring pup home..

Our girl is coming home in 2 weeks. We are SO excited. We drove to see her today and it took 4 hours to get there. We’ve stayed over in a local seaside area and will drive back tomorrow. But obviously it will be 4 hours home when we pick her up. I have a wash basket I’m
Going to use and sit in the back with her. What sort of things do I need to bring? What about if she needs the toilet?

Thank you!

Pic for attention ;)

If your dog is not crated, nor harnessed and attached to the seat belt, nor behind a dog guard away from the driver, your insurance company won't pay up in the event of an accident. You may end up being prosecuted too. I remain appalled at the number of dog owners who are unaware (or don't care) of that change in the law.

However you decide to restrain the puppy (not sure if a harness works in this instance) either crate or cat box, take plenty of old towels, paper towels, training pads and water with you.
Yes likely they will pee but on such a long journey they're very likely to be car sick quite a bit. So no treats during the journey would be my advice.

Take plenty of safe stops and offer water to drink.

Talk to the puppy gently for as long as you can too.

It will be a stressful experience for her but you'll be there to constantly reassure her.

Absolutely gorgeous little puppy!!! Enjoy!

Very sweet little puppy!

I always bring puppies (well, the 5 I’ve had) home in a proper crash tested crate in the boot. Usually lined with old towels and a blanket from breeder. Someone sits in the back and chats to puppy.

I hate to see dogs unrestrained in cars, years ago I witnessed a bad crash on the motorway with 2 loose husky’s, one ran from the vehicle into traffic and the other died in the car.

I use a Lintran dog box in my car, fills the boot but can fit 3 collies in there. DT boxes, mimsafe and trans K9 are also crash tested.
