Ruffwear collars

I’m looking for a new collar for my 2 year old working cocker spaniel. She’s got a blueberry one at the moment but I fancy a change.
She swims in the sea most days and so it needs to be a fairly hardy collar.
Are the ruffwear ones worth the massive price?

We have wolters collars and indigo slide on tags for our lab. He has 2 different colours and over the last 7 years they have been through the washing machine many times and still look like new

The tags are also great and have lasted 7 years so far.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/09/2021 23:27

forgot the link, you can buy the wolters collars elsewhere too, I anyways get the basic ones as think the padded ones might not wash as well.

I've got a few ruff wear things and they are great. Really good quality and long lasting.

We don't however have a rough wear collar. Ours wears an ezydog one. It's cheaper than ruff wear but good quality. Ours too swims and rolls in all kind of muck.

I think Ruffwear is hugely overpriced for what it is Blush

We have a Ruffwear harness which cost over £70. I also have an Eagloo harness that was less than £20 off Amazon and I can't see any difference between them that justifies paying £50 for Ruffwear.

It's just good marketing imo.

Mine have rough wear collars, some of them are 7-8 yrs old so while expensive I see that as pretty good value. They go through the washing machine and come out like new.

PollyRoullson · 03/09/2021 08:42

Biothane collars are good for swimming dogs as they are waterproof dry quickly and are wipe clean.

I think all ruffwear is overpriced tbh.

SirSniffsAlot · 03/09/2021 09:42

To go against the grain... the collars are the one thing I do rate about Ruffwear. I use them and they simply never seem to age despite being washed about a hundred times by now - having been dragged through bushes, lakes and fox poo more times than I care to remember.

I didn't pay more than about £15 for one and they have lasted for years, so I don't think they are extortionate unlike some of their other stuff

Wombat96 · 03/09/2021 10:01

My terrier had a Ruffwear collar, think she lost it in undergrowth.

The RW harnesses are great but I've not bought the same collar, as I was cross it came off.

Got a Red Dingo one, which has lasted years but now smells lots...

£36.00 for a ruffwear waterproof collar Shock
here

SirSniffsAlot · 03/09/2021 11:47

Yeah - £36 for a collar is bonkers.

Mine are just the canvas ones but they dry within minutes so I've never seen the need for anything more. Wouldn't pay £36 though Shock

PinkFishGreenFish · 03/09/2021 12:14

we use the biothane ones on our working cocker - they are great and the wet and mud is no issue

PinkFishGreenFish · 03/09/2021 12:19

dezignadogcollar.co.uk/

they are made to size too so always fit perfectly - we've got a reflective one that we use in the dark in winter and then a padded one that he wears normally

he's a dog that spends his life being muddy so these have been perfect for him - would never buy a different one now!

That is bonkers!

Ruffwear prices are ridiculous - I don't understand what they do so differently to a cheaper £20 harness off Amazon.

We got two (a Ruffwear one and an Eagloo one) around the same time and the cheaper one is in far better shape than the Ruffwear one is!
