Help, I'm in an overwhelmed anxious mess!

Brought home gorgeous chilled greyhound. She's currently asleep in her bed - I'll make sure I take her out in about an hour for a last wee she's already had two wees in the garden and a big sloppy smelly poo.

Rescue said best to start as mean to go on so I should sleep in my bed and let her sleep where she flops . I've tried her with the stairs but she's absolutely not having it so she will have to sleep downstairs. I've got a camera I can put on in the room she prefers. I was advised to close the door to the stairs in case she tries in the night and is unsafe but she would then have access to all of downstairs including kitchen .

I'm absolutely terrified of leaving her alone but she also seems already Velcro and I don't want to store up problems for later

Should I go up , leave camera on and hope she wakes me if issues. Her bed she likes best isn't her crate. She went in her crate for a bit earlier with lickimat but definitely prefers bed in lounge . Or should I give her a bedtime biscuit in crate and shut it?

Also when she was out with dc in garden earlier she ate something but they didn't see what so I'm worrying now !

See: anxious mess!

Any advice really appreciated

Breathe!
Is she generally house trained?
Re the sleeping - she’s clearly discovered her own bed and is comfortable there. If she is used to being in the crate overnight, then sure, give her a biscuit and close her in, but if that’s new to her leave her in the bed in the lounge.
Can you block the stairs with a piece of furniture?
I would probably set a alarm for middle of the night (2 ish) and quietly check on her, in person or by camera. But otherwise if she is quiet let her be.
Re the eating in the garden; just keep an eye on her . She will probably be fine.
Do a sweep of the garden in daylight to identify any hazards & thank your stars that she’s not a Labrador …

Congratulations! It sounds like she's off to a fantastic start, pee and poo in the garden ans sleeping in her bed. That's brilliant.

I'd leave her where she is. Shut the door to the stairs and see what the night brings, she might just surprise you but it's her first night in a strange place with new people, just try and go with the flow. I think the most important thing is to make her feel safe so respond to her needs. Maybe bunk down with her if she gets distressed. You can retreat once she gets more confident. I've got a feeling she'll do really well though.

Oh and don't worry about whatever it was that she ate. I shudder at the thought of the things our boys eaten over the years. Nothings ever done him any harm (had to clean up some I interesting poo though!)

I got up from sofa and so did she so I took her out and she did a huge wee. Bit earlier than the kennels but hoping that will do. Just sitting on sofa waiting for her to settle as she's all lively now and has retrieved her squeaky duck which she determinedly keeps in her crate !! Hoping she will calm down then I will leave her . Guessing I should take the toy away overnight ?!

Please don’t be anxious: she knows she’s found her pack and is comfortable sleeping already. That’s wonderful Smile

Go to sleep now and enjoy your walk tomorrow morning. She’ll let you know if she needs anything.

She started whining twice, tried a garden trip, more whining so am on the sofa!
