Advice about my lovely boy

Hi everyone. Just wondered if anyone out there had any similar experiences to what I am currently going through with my boy Fudge - I know this forum offers some really good advice and although I don't post often, I often read for advice.

My boy is a six year old lab retriever. On Monday morning I heard him get up and he was sick - yellow bile. Wouldn't eat anything and was panting heavily; obviously in pain - couldn't rest, seeking out corners. He was pacing and strangely, manically digging holes in the garden. Really unlike him. Called emergency vet and she thought it could be suspected pancreatitis as can be so painful. The vet gave him pain relief etc and sent him home with antibiotics etc.

He was due to go in for full blood tests on Tuesday (yesterday) but was restless during Monday night and early Tuesday morning, could barely walk - very ginger on his back legs. Went straight back to vet and he was admitted yesterday and put on a drip. Had some initial tests at the surgery yesterday and blood work - definitely not pancreatitis and a scan on his abdomen showed nothing sinister. Couldn't see his liver. Full blood work should be in today.

He came home last night but after a more settled night he's still not himself. Managed to get the meds down him (a huge pile of stuff!) but he's only eaten a little chicken this morning and this is a normally a hoover dog - he'll literally eat anything!! Obviously, will wait to see what the bloods say but I'm so worried about him. Is the lack of appetite to be expected? Could it be his liver? Some sort of poison? Can anyone shed any light on this at all?

He's the most accident prone dog in the world. We are literally always at the vets. He has one eye from crashing in to something and detaching his retina (we never found out what!) Honestly, the stress this dog puts us through is unbelievable (and don't even talk about the money!)

Any comforting words would be so appreciated - if only they could tell us what's wrong. We all love him to bits and don't want him in any pain.

Bumping. So sorry for your dog and your worries. We no longer have pets, love them but so worrying.
Hope today brings an improvement.

@Beebumble2 thank you for your kind message. Still waiting on the results but he's still not right.

I agree about the worrying. It's such a nightmare!

Can he move his head and neck properly?

Have they explored meningitis as a possibility?

Lack of appetite is probably to be expected if he's feeling under the weather, poor chap.

Little and often is how I would tackle his food at the moment. I've found with my dog that I've often had to hand feed her when she has no appetite.

Is he drinking okay, and peeing and pooing?

Such a worry. I hope you get some good news from the vet and he feels better soon.

@pigsDOfly - thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

He will not take any food or water at all and has slept most of the day. He did have a wee/poo this morning though. No bloods back yet but the vet is going to give him an injection tonight to try and calm his intestine - she thinks the drugs may be making him feel poorly as he isn't eating enough to counteract them - a bit like when we take Ibuprofen on an empty stomach.

Just really hope something turns up on the bloods or the injection tonight works.

Thanks again.

Hope you get some answers Thanks

@icedcoffees - I'm not sure if they've explored meningitis - would that show on the blood work? He's lying on his side and doesn't appear to have neck problems but he is carefully moving around. I'll ask the vet tonight.

Thanks for your reply x
