Dog boarder - no license

I've been trying to find a place to board my dog for a weekend. I found a lady who boards dogs at home and arranged the dates. I text her this evening asking if she was insured and licensed by the council. Apparently her license ran out during Covid and she was unable to reapply also because of Covid. She says she is insured and that's the main thing. Is this right ? Is it legal? Would this affect my dogs insurance? I've never looked into this before so would appreciate advice.

I did feel a bit pressured by her about somethings, I'd of preferred my dog spread a few hours there to see how he gets on but she's insisting he is thrown in the deep end, I worry how he will cope with all the changes including being around other dogs freely for the first time. Also she wasn't bothered that he isn't neutered but everywhere else I've spoken was. It all feels a bit of a mine field.

I’m afraid I wouldn’t be taking any risks with my dog. UnLicensed is a deal breaker for me for starters but everything else is a massive red flag.

I agree - a few red flags. Also if her licence has run out her insurance might be invalid. I wouldn’t leave my dog there, sorry.

I just found this information! Now I'm definitely worried. I'm not send my boy there. She said she hadn't got around to reapplying then blamed Covid for not being able to then another excuse which I won't mention because it could be identifying.

Unlicensed and uninsured…..

Also I would worry she might “Stud” you dog out without your knowledge if he is a popular breed or cross?

Don’t do it find a better option

Very illegal.

You could renew boarding licenses throughout the pandemic so I suspect she was never licensed in the first place. If she's not licensed she won't be insured either.

The council will have a list of licensed boarders and daycares on their website if you Google "council name licensed home boarders".

Or if you're happy giving your rough location, someone on here might be able to recommend someone?

No don't use her find someone else.

I wouldn’t send my dog there. How does she know a dog is suitable to be “thrown in at the deep end”? That’s a terrible way to introduce dogs. I’d worry she either doesn’t care how the dogs get on or she shuts them all away individually and won’t exercise them. Or use him for stud as pp said.

We have found a more reputable place.
