Pet Insurance Help

Hopefully some wise mumsnetters can offer some advice.

DDog insurance is up for renewal and I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on good companies they use with large breed dogs?

Also DDog is a nearly 4 year old mastiff so getting on in mastiff years, age expectancy is about 9-10, for this large breed sadly. (I'm trying not to think about it)

But do you think at this point it's worth getting a lifelong policy? As he is getting older. He's been on 12 month policies, is perfectly healthy but is getting on.

Any advice?

Have you made any claims in the past?

It's better to start a lifetime policy when the dog is young. They undertake to continue coverage for the dog, but the premiums can change.

Older dogs get more expensive to insure, as do those with pre-existing conditions.

You'll need to ring round insurers to compare premiums.

No claims in the past. Perfectly fit and healthy dog who isn't mischievous luckily. Never so much as chewed a piece of furniture or a shoe. He's a gem.

I'll take the others advice of ringing round and swap to lifetime cover.

Thank you!

Do be aware that anything you have mentioned to your vet will be on record and can be deemed to be preexisting. On my first claim they asked for a complete history of everything even not connected to the claim.

It is well worth getting a lifetime cover. BBM are often recommended and have certain cover for anything preexisting so might be worth looking over their T&Cs. I am with petplan and mine is a walking vet bill so stuck with what I have got which is fortunately life cover but not for a lot Sad

Other than his vaccinations including kennel cough and neuter. He hasn't been to the vets thankfully. So hopefully that's ok. 🤞🏻

My old cocker spaniel was a walking vet bill, so I feel for you there. Me and the vet were on first name terms 🙄
