Hey guys,

I am a fully qualified dog groomer just starting up from home. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on getting my name out there. Im based in Banstead, Surrey. Thank you

My dog walker recommended a dog groomer to me. Perhaps give freebies to the dog walkers in exchange for sharing your website?
Lots of social media advertising e.g. on local town facebook groups, dog breed specific groups, puppy groups etc.
Leaflet drop maybe.

See if any local trainers / puppy groups would let you drop off some leaflets as really you need to aim for new owners. I would imagine most people don’t change once they are happy in the same way as people stick to one hairdresser for themselves . I drive past quite a few groomers to go to the one I use and I won’t change because I like her and more importantly so does my dog .

Same here in that I wouldn't change our groomer now as he knows and trusts her and as a regular she will squeeze me in if I was desperate.

You really want to be targeting new dog owners.

I think the issue you'll have is people stick with groomers they know and trust.

I'm a dog walker and link up with our local groomer - we each advertise for the other and refer clients to each other. However, I've known her and her husband for several years now so I trust her implicitly.

I would be very hesitant to recommend a brand new groomer as I'd be worried about it coming back on me if something went wrong!

I would try and build up a portfolio of photos (borrow friends dogs if necessary) so you have photographic evidence of your work, and then advertise on local social media sites or ask if you can put fliers up in local shops.

Word of mouth is good too - get out (ideally with a dog) and talk to other dog owners and tell them who you are! Carry business cards and hand them out to other people or post them through doors.

Good luck!
