Help! Looking after friends dog and they are distressed

Hi, we are looking after a friends dog. We don’t know the dog or friends well but we meet when dog walking and our dogs get on well. We have had him since 6pm and he is getting more and more upset. He is whining, barking, scratching at the door and will not settle at all.

I am not sure what we can do. We have brought him in to our bedroom but he is still very upset. Our dog is very calm and she’s here too but it’s not making a difference.

They are not picking him up until 5pm
Sunday and I am honestly not sure how to get him to even just stop moving let alone to actually sleep!

@Newfluff kennels don't suit every dog, though. Mine certainly wouldn't be happy overnight in that kind of environment.

Home boarding is probably the best solution for many dogs, but it's expensive and many people are reluctant to pay. House-sitting is another option but again, people don't want to pay the prices involved.

Different dogs suit different environments. This doesn’t look to be working for their dog and they need to know. We tried to leave our dog overnight with a dog sitter once. He was so unsettled and went loopy. We had to go and get him.

So now we have no option but to use kennels. He came back very happy and not stressed at all last time we left him there so I’m hoping that is our solution.

We used a house sitter also but you need to have a lot of trust in the sitter that they are walking the dog/not leaving for hours/ etc.
