Shivgirl1 · 23/08/2021 21:35

Hi I have a 4 year old un neutered male dog and I am thinking of rehoming a female dog un neutered did a trial yesterday and she was in season and my dog went bananas. Ive called the vet to get her sterilsed but ive been told that this might not stop him. Other than getting them both done nothing I can do. I guess my question is will my male dog leave her alone if she has been done. ( Sorry fir the wrong wording I do love dogs just dont get it. Can a real doggie person help with my question

Recipe for disaster. Don't do it.

Hekatestorch · 23/08/2021 21:39

I wouldn't adopt her at all.

Rehoming her and putting her through an extra emotional trauma like an operation and stay at the vets is a recipe for disaster. Then there's th period of her hormones settling. That can distress dogs.

It can take refuses months to decompress.

It also may not stop him.

If you want to adopt a female in the future get him done.

Maybe do a bit more research and try with another dog in a bit.
You seem shocked that you bring a bitch in season into the home of an intact male dog and he “ went bananas “ what else did you expect to happen ?😱😂

AnAnonymousCheerleader · 23/08/2021 21:45

I'm shocked the person/charity re homing the bitch sent their in season dog to the home for a trial introduction with an intact male.

Of course he went bananas, it's what male dogs do when in heat bitches are about.

Me too. They are not a decent rescue imo.

I work with a small rescue. In April 2020, just after lockdown I did an emergency run for a neutered male. I have 2 female dogs, one was to young to have done, but due aher first season. The owner was threatening to have the dog out down. I was meant to be fostering the dog.

I picked the dog up, who wasn't the breed they said it was (it was over twice as big as the breed they claimed) and it was intact.

I still picked it up, called the rescue and they made alternative arrangements while I drove back. Me fostering the dig wasn't an option.

WTAF!
Of course the dog went bananas, she is in season and he is entire!
What on earth did you expect to happen?!
More to the point, why did the ‘rescue’ allow this?!
I 100% would not rehome a dog from a ‘rescue’ so utterly incompetent.
I expect the entire male wouldn’t be interested in a spayed bitch once the hormones have settled but I definitely wouldn’t consider a dog from this particular ‘rescue’

hiredandsqueak · 24/08/2021 12:36

I adopted Bella who wasn't spayed (but was done six weeks after as part of the adoption agreement) Exh's dog an entire male is a regular visitor here. Before she was done (but not in season) exh's dog was no more interested in her than he was afterwards although expect it would have been an entirely different scenario had she been in season (I wouldn't have had exh's dog round if she had been in season though)

icedcoffees · 24/08/2021 13:06

Why on earth did you introduce an in-season bitch to your entire male?

Shambolical1 · 24/08/2021 19:13

Vets won't spay until three months after her season anyway.

This whole thing sounds very strange.
