Can anyone suggest good clippers or even grinders if you get on b with them please? My boy used to be ok with his nails but lately the groomers have said it’s been a problem. I’m slowly doing them myself bu just wondered if people find a difference with different types.

I have this rechargeable nail grinder. It’s really quiet, as well as being effective. My boy absolutely hated nail clipping, but now sleeps through me doing his nails. I do them once a week and it keeps them nice and short.

I got mine half price in a sale, but would be happy to pay twenty pounds for them. I wouldn’t go back to clippers now and will always use a grinder in future.

Millers Forge clippers are excellent. I also use a Dremel (ordinary grinder not their dog nail one) There's loads of useful info on the Nail Maintenance for Dogs Facebook page.

I have the blue Wahl grinder, the one that goes into mains, not the battery one.

I use the stone head and it is really effective but it is LOUD and although it is much better tolerated than clippers which my dog is really frightened of she really does not like the grinder either.

The bands I couldn’t get on with at all, they kept flying off so I would only recommend using it with the stone.

I used the nail maintenance for dogs FB page as well. My boy had been poorly and we had to avoid doing his nails because it stressed him out, which brought on symptoms. I needed advice on how to chase the quicks back as quickly as possible, without stressing him out. It was really helpful and they’re now nice and short and easy to maintain with the grinder.

He has thick black nails on all but two toes on each front paw, so I was worried a cheaper grinder wouldn’t cope, but it’s been fine.
